PHOENIX (AP) – Christmas carols will be filling the halls of the Maricopa County Jail Tuesday, when Sheriff Joe Arpaio holds a contest for inmates.

The winner of the caroling contest will receive a full Christmas dinner for him or herself, and their cellmates. As part of this competition, each inmate must sing a well known Christmas carol.

Sheriff’s officials say the inmates who plan to participate in contest are being held on a variety of charges, ranging from burglary and DUI, even murder.

Sheriff’s officials tell our affiliate in Phoenix, KPHO, the judges will include Sheriff Arpaio, Santa Claus, and a singing detention officer named “Elfis.”
