FL Police Seek Man's Extradition Following Highway Chase

MIAMI – Miami police have obtained an arrest warrant to extradite a Hollywood man accused of leading more than a dozen police officers on a high speed chase on Interstate 95 on Wednesday that ended in a crash in Hallandale Beach.
Tyrone Anthony Chica, 43, who lives in the 2400 block of Polk Street, is charged with felony counts of attempted strong arm robbery and fleeing/eluding a police officer.
The incident began when Chica was spotted by a patrol officer at about 10:45 a.m. attempting to rob an elderly woman in the area of Northwest 40th Avenue and Seventh Street in Miami.
When Chica realized he’d been seen, he jumped into his blue Ford Expedition and sped away northbound on 42nd Avenue.
Within minutes, other Miami police units joined the pursuit as Chica moved eastbound on State Road 836, then on I-95, heading north to Broward County.
The entire chase lasted just 30 minutes with Chica losing control of his SUV at 11:17 a.m. and slamming into the rear of an empty orange juice tanker truck at the Hallandale Beach Boulevard exit ramp.

I work in Florida and I can attest that the different counties are indeed a mess when it comes to extradition...many warrants are for in county or surrounding counties only so a 2 hr drive means that they are safe from the warrant. Pure sillyness.

I don't believe that there is any formal legal paperwork involved in bringing a bad guy from one county to another, just a simple "go get him" and sign the custody papers. Counties are not sovereign States.

Yes, it is Hollywood, FL, in Broward County.
Miami is in Dade County.
He was arrested by Broward County Officers, and the "extradition" is from Broward to Dade.
I agree, the article is crappy, but what else would you expect from the Miami Herald...? It's the Miami Carbon Copy of the NY Times... LOL.

This really makes no sense. If he crashed then did they not catch him? Are they wanting to extradite him because of a failure to yield to blue lights or because he is wanted for robbery? They say the guy lives in Hollywood but no state given and there is a Hollywood, Fl which is right outside of Ft. Lauderdale very near Miami. Crappy article.
