While Fleeing Police, Mans Jumped to His Death

MINNEAPOLIS – A man running from police after a fight outside a nightclub jumped to his death from a downtown Minneapolis freeway overpass, police said.
Just after 2 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to the Epic nightclub at 110 N. 5th St., after a fight started outside the club. When officers arrived, the man believed to have started the fight ran into a nearby parking ramp, according to police.
The man ran through the ramp, out a door and onto a Interstate 394 off-ramp. He ran about 100 yards down the ramp and jumped a cyclone fence. Then he leaped over a concrete barrier and fell several stories to a parking lot below. Police believe the man was trying to escape and misjudged the distance to the ground, police Sgt. William Palmer said.
The man, identified Saturday night as Jason Yang, 29, of West St. Paul, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Palmer said.
The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, the Hennepin County medical examiner said.
He landed underneath the 4th Street ramp near Target Field, police said.
Five officers who were in the area have been placed on a three-day paid administrative leave due to the traumatic circumstances involved, Palmer said.
The Minneapolis Police Department’s homicide and internal affairs units are investigating.
No one could be reached Saturday at the Epic club.

I work security for that ramp and I was dispached for Jason running through our ramp and wittenssed the entire situation until the end. The article has it wrong it was the hwy 94 overpass. That ramp, Ramp C is not connected to 394.
Im really sorry for his family.
Stories like this is why I hate the downtown nightlife. This could have been handled a lot better by all parties than this father dieing and leaving behind his wife and kids

In all seriousness though guys there is a major problem here.
The five officers who chased after this guy are now at the mercy of his friends and family who are up and arms. In their friend's eyes (like the posting of the guy before mine) there will be people who want retribution; possibly toward their families.

Did they really need to write this?
"The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries"
It wasn't due to natural causes.

Nice to know that a family member of 3 of my co-workers is such a joke to many people on here. Next time anyone gets in a fight and runs from the PD because they are scared, I'll just say that he deserves to die. Nice to know that a place I come to get away from stupidity is becoming over crowded with the same idiots on other forums. Think my time on policelink is about up.

foxblood: it wasn't a regular upstanding citizen we're talking about. He was running from police who had a lawful right to pursue him and he made the conscious decision to jump. this used to be an open and shut situation before we graduated too many lawyers from law school. I feel bad for his family, but they shouldn't expect a dime from the government for his bad decision-making skills. when any upstanding citizen dies, it's a tragedy, but the key word is UPSTANDING.

I'm going to blame Alcohol for this, i mean, when i look over the edge of a railing and see 'Several Stories' to the ground below, my rational mind says the same thing it's been saying to humans since we first started here "HOLY CRAP ON A CRUTCH YOU DON'T HAVE WINGS DON'T DO IT!"
so... yeah i'm blaming alcohol for this one.
