Gun-Wielding High School Student Still at Large

WASHINGTON — Police are still searching for a Montgomery County student who got into a fight with another student then, robbed him at gunpoint.

Just as classes were starting last Thursday morning, Ladonta Wright, 17, got into a fistfight with another student just off the Springbrook High School campus in Silver Spring, Md., according to Montgomery County Police.

Wright’s friend, Tavon Body, of Burtonsville, Md., pulled a gun and pointed it at the student fighting Wright, police say.

Body then passed the gun to Wright, also of Burtonsville, who chased after the student he had been fighting, held him and gunpoint and robbed him.

Detectives searched Wright’s house Friday, but he was not at home, according to a Montgomery County Gazette report.

Police believe he is in Virginia.

The incident prompted Springbrook to issue a Code Blue emergency alert, where staff must account for every student.

Body and Wright, both Springbrook students, face charges of first- and second-degree assault and using a handgun in a crime of violence.

Wright also faces charges of armed robbery.

The other student in the fight has not been been charged.

Both are charged as adults.

Police are currently holding Body on a $5,000 bond.
