Marine Murdered Defending His Wife In French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS – A Marine from Texas survived combat in Iraq only to be murdered in the French Quarter — stabbed to death even as he wore his dress-blue uniform complete with battle commendations pinned to his chest.
Sgt. Ryan Lekosky and his wife were wrapping up an evening celebrating the service’s 235th birthday at a formal ball at the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street.
“To know you survived some of the deadliest areas of the world … to come home and be killed stateside,” said Capt. Kate Vanden Bossche, a Louisiana spokeswoman for the Marine Corps.
Authorities said Monday they were hunting for a suspect and searching for recordings from surveillance cameras that may have captured the confrontation.
New Orleans police said a preliminary investigation indicates that at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the 23-year-old Lekosky and his wife were walking along Dauphine Street in the Quarter.
A man allegedly pulled alongside the couple and began shouting inappropriate comments at Lekosky’s wife. She and the heckler launched into some sort of a physical confrontation that Lekosky tried to stop.
“(Lekosky) sustained several stab wounds while trying to break up the fight,” according to the statement released by police.
Officers would not take questions about the stabbing. It is unclear how many people were in the car or exactly what triggered the violence.
Lekosky was assigned to an air station in Louisiana but was born and raised in Corpus Christi.
He was a high school quarterback there, according to his family, and decided not to attend college, joining the service in 2005.
“He fought for our country and came back safe from that,” said his younger sister, Danika Lekosky, who wondered aloud how anyone could attack a service member, especially during a time of war.
She said that he was supposed to have again deployed in November to Afghanistan, but his orders changed.
Lekosky and his wife married quietly a few months ago.
As a result, most family members, including Lekosky’s parents, will meet her for the first time only now, as a military funeral is planned for Corpus Christi, she said.
She said her brother was changed by his military service, and confided that wherever he was, even back in the United States, he felt he had to be constantly on guard to threats around him.
“It was almost like he knew that someday something tragic would happen to him,” she said.

My condolences to Sgt. Lekosky's wife and family. We pray that New Orleans will be expedient in bringing the guilty to justice in this case. Our continued prayers are with this family in their time of bereavement.

My second post ... this bothers me beyond what I would normally be bothered by such acts. To attack and stab a United States Marine, in full uniform, on a public street is an act that cannot be tolerated at any level. I'm not sure what the punishment for this will be in a court of law in Louisiana but I know what it should be. May Dear God bless your soul, may he bless your loved ones and those who loved you and may he hold those responsible for your death accountable to him and may their price be severe. "Go Easy" my brother, Semper Fidelis, Hooorah and don't ever forget, your God, your Country, your Corps and your family honor you! Because you were a Marine, you will live forever because the Marines will live forever!

What a shame for the city of New Orleans that already has enough shame. The shame is on the state of Louisiana as well for allowing the trash that thrives in that city. I know, there are a lot of good people in N O but the percentage of garbage outweighs the good when people from the outside think about visiting or living there
May God Bless his soul and his family. What a tragedy. Thanks POS for making us all look bad to the world.

Witnessed a similar incident in the Army while stationed in Germany except this was 1/2 dozen Army guys heckling an Army man and his wife walking down the street. Making crude remarks to the woman - the guy defending his wife telling the guys to knock it off. The group started surrounding the couple, one breaking a large beer bottle. A few of us ran out the gate and across the street to back this guy and his wife up when the German Police pulled up. There should be a special place in hell for people like this. Without any of our own getting hurt - maybe the POS dirt bag will resist the police and have to be taken out. One can only hope. Either way, this POS deserves the death penalty.

Semper Fi my brother warrior. You've done your duty, you've honored your country and your wife and your honor will be upheld. The POS who stabbed you better hope the police find him before the Marines find him; it's his only chance of survival. It would be in his best interest to turn himself in and quickly because if he's identified first but not caught ... his days will be numbered and his end will not be pleasant. There's a reason Marines are called "Devil Dogs" and soon the coward who stabbed you will learn why! Again, rest in peace my brother, we'll take it from here!

Sadly hero's do not get to choose whom they swear to protect. They take an oath to protect all enemies of United States both foreign and domestic. Sadly those who not respect life or sacrifice on the parts of those guarding it has taken the life of this young Marine. May they find this low life and maybe just maybe some of his Marine Core family will deal with him. Peace and comfort to the family. A peaceful rest for the hero lost.

One of the saddest examples of what has happened to the morality of our country .... RIP Marine and know that there are good people here that will track down this low life thug and bring him to justice .. but unfortunately will not be able to bring you back to your family ..

Death penalty for murdering an active duty serviceman should be mandatory.
