Marine Murdered Defending His Wife In French Quarter

NEW ORLEANS – A Marine from Texas survived combat in Iraq only to be murdered in the French Quarter — stabbed to death even as he wore his dress-blue uniform complete with battle commendations pinned to his chest.

Sgt. Ryan Lekosky and his wife were wrapping up an evening celebrating the service’s 235th birthday at a formal ball at the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street.

“To know you survived some of the deadliest areas of the world … to come home and be killed stateside,” said Capt. Kate Vanden Bossche, a Louisiana spokeswoman for the Marine Corps.

Authorities said Monday they were hunting for a suspect and searching for recordings from surveillance cameras that may have captured the confrontation.

New Orleans police said a preliminary investigation indicates that at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the 23-year-old Lekosky and his wife were walking along Dauphine Street in the Quarter.

A man allegedly pulled alongside the couple and began shouting inappropriate comments at Lekosky’s wife. She and the heckler launched into some sort of a physical confrontation that Lekosky tried to stop.

“(Lekosky) sustained several stab wounds while trying to break up the fight,” according to the statement released by police.

Officers would not take questions about the stabbing. It is unclear how many people were in the car or exactly what triggered the violence.

Lekosky was assigned to an air station in Louisiana but was born and raised in Corpus Christi.

He was a high school quarterback there, according to his family, and decided not to attend college, joining the service in 2005.

“He fought for our country and came back safe from that,” said his younger sister, Danika Lekosky, who wondered aloud how anyone could attack a service member, especially during a time of war.

She said that he was supposed to have again deployed in November to Afghanistan, but his orders changed.

Lekosky and his wife married quietly a few months ago.

As a result, most family members, including Lekosky’s parents, will meet her for the first time only now, as a military funeral is planned for Corpus Christi, she said.

She said her brother was changed by his military service, and confided that wherever he was, even back in the United States, he felt he had to be constantly on guard to threats around him.

“It was almost like he knew that someday something tragic would happen to him,” she said.

That is disgusting. I'm in the Navy now but I started out as a Marine. I was also born in Corpus Christi. I am preparing to deploy overseas. Really hope they catch the piece of s@#t that did this.

I am from New Orleans and to here of things like this sickens me. Some people just have no damn morals or even a conscience. This man young man fought for they as to be here and that is how he is repaid? That's just sad, it is bad enough that that person(s) were out with negativity on their minds but a DECORATED OFFICER IN UNIFORM!!! Man will catch the person(s) responsible, God sees and knows all!! Its sad that idiots like that put out such a bad perception of such a beautiful place. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and especially his new wife because I can't even imagining witnessing something like that and I know she would need help and prayer to release some of those images.

There were some arrests made in the case of the young Marine who was defending his wife while they were on Bourbon St in New Orleans.this past November or at the end of october. As usual it was some trash that prey of good people who are spending money in the neighborhood of the trash. Go figure. They will probably be sent to some nice place where they can enjoy life with no remorse for their stupid act that makes Makes New Orleans and Louisiana less attractive to outsiders. If they only had a brain.
Our measly society would never turn trash like that to the Sarge's fellow Marines. They think the sports world draws money. Just let them loose and see how much people would pay to see them run down and taken care of. The money could go to his family and child.
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God Bless the victim's soul and bless his family. May they find some sort of happiness ASAP.

Catch the guy(s) responsible & turn them over to the Sarge's Unit. Save the taxpayer's a lot of money for a trial & prison upkeep.

Its truly wrong that our military men and women have to constantly look over their shoulder even whenever their stateside. Its a same that this young soilder had to lose his life while defending his wife's honor. May he REST IN PEACE knowing that he defended his wife's honor to the fullest. I hope that law enforcement finds the scumbag that did this and punishes them to the fullest extent possible by Louisana law. My Deepest Sympathy To The Family Of This Fallen Marine!!!!!

The scumbags thrive in the US now a days. Seems like the law lets them do as they please with little to no consequences. IMO they should be open to "civilian" justice and taken care of when found rather than letting thm get off with the help of some slick lawyer or if convicted live off the people in a 5 star jail. Don't let them get to trial and the world is right again.

Is there no shame, no respect, not only for the uniform, but for the marriage, and for the couple as human beings minding their own business, just having a nice night out on the town? What sick crap to have to come home to.
