Inmate Locks Guards in Cell During Jail Search
Associated Press
October 25, 2010
PARAGOULD, Ark. (AP) – An inmate locked three guards and a sheriff’s deputy in a cell at the Greene County Jail while the officers were conducting a search for contraband. Sheriff Dan Langston chalked it up to a lack of training.
The Paragould Daily Press reported that the incident happened on Oct. 10, when inmate Jacob Rodden ran out of the cell, shut the door and inserted the security pin, confining the officers inside with some of the inmates they were searching.
Rodden, who then locked himself in a visitation booth, was placed in indefinite lockdown.
The four officers were rescued by a jail matron, without incident.
Langston said the jail is outdated and has tremendous employee turnover. The sheriff says the officers won’t be disciplined.

Thats funny and I am glad no one got hurt. I do work in a corrections area . We do have a officer watching the inmates when the are brought out.

What has an outdated jail have to do with this? Who conducts a cell search with the inmates still inside. I worked in an old county jail and standard procedure was to remove the inmates to a secure cell or holdover with an officer watching them while other staff conducted the search.

Training? ... surely it is sheer stupidity. It doesn't take a lot of brain to realize that something like this might happen and so to plan to avoid it happening.

Why was the inmate in the cell while a search was conducted any way! That has nothing to do with the jail being "out dated". Lack of common sense as well as training are the only issue here.
