WASHINGTON — Forget the Decepticons. The Transformers Monday took on D.C. Police.
In a filming area for “Transformers 3” near the National Mall Monday afternoon, a police SUV responding to an emergency with lights and sirens blaring entered an intersection at Third Street and Maryland Avenue in Southwest.
The SUV collided with a yellow Chevy Camaro, known to “Transformers” fans as the character Bumblebee.
The Camaro T-boned the SUV, but appeared to suffer the brunt of the damage. Its front end caved in, and workers promptly covered up the damaged car.
D.C. Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump says an officer suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to a hospital.
Crump says the crash is under investigation and that filming on closed Washington streets has been suspended until safety procedures are reviewed.
