WASHINGTON — Forget the Decepticons. The Transformers Monday took on D.C. Police.
In a filming area for “Transformers 3” near the National Mall Monday afternoon, a police SUV responding to an emergency with lights and sirens blaring entered an intersection at Third Street and Maryland Avenue in Southwest.
The SUV collided with a yellow Chevy Camaro, known to “Transformers” fans as the character Bumblebee.
The Camaro T-boned the SUV, but appeared to suffer the brunt of the damage. Its front end caved in, and workers promptly covered up the damaged car.
D.C. Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump says an officer suffered minor injuries in the accident and was taken to a hospital.
Crump says the crash is under investigation and that filming on closed Washington streets has been suspended until safety procedures are reviewed.

As stated in an earlier comment the K9 Officer who was involved in this traffic crash was on a different radio channel than the Officers who were handling traffic control for the movie set, and responding to a suspicious package. Not sure about other jurisdictions but here in DC a potential bomb takes priority over a movie being filmed. It's not a closed set so people were wondering around the filming all day. In my personal opinion the stunt driver should have been "Paying Full Time and Attention" and should have "Yield To an Emergency Vehicle" both of which he could have been cited for here in DC.

Interesting, the streets were closed for filming and I assume barricaded...The barricades should have been manned, if so someone let him thru without communicating with production. If not then the officer drove into an active movie set where stunt driving was happening. Either way a major error, probably falls on the traffic detail handling the control. Handling traffic in and around movie sets is unique in many ways and there is no substitute for experience. In Los Angeles because of the volume of filming an organization of experienced officers has been formed, The Motion Picture Officers Association.

Bumblebee: the lights and sirens mean pull to the left, not take out the vehicle. Silly transformer.
