MA Top Cop Hit By 5-Time Offending Drunk Driver

BOSTON – A repeat drunken driver is accused of going straight to the top this time – she allegedly slammed into State Police Col. Marian McGovern’s unmarked cruiser.
McGovern, who has made a crackdown against drunken driving one of her signature initiatives, was stopped yesterday morning at a red light in Shrewsbury when the Ford sedan rear-ended her black, unmarked Ford Explorer.
State Police spokesman David Procopio said McGovern saw the car coming in her rear view mirror but “did not have the time or the space to make an evasive maneuver.”
McGovern called another officer to make the arrest – a fifth-offense drunken driving charge for Donna Sclamo, 51, of Worcester.
“The Colonel is glad that if Ms. Sclamo was going to hit anyone, that she hit Cruiser 1, so that no private citizens were hurt and so the Massachusetts State Police could get a drunk driver off the road before she killed herself or someone else,” stated a state police statement. No one was seriously injured in yesterday’s crash.
Sclamo was also charged with driving after suspension. She was released on $1,000 cash bail.
In July, McGovern boosted patrols and checkpoints after five troopers were hit by drunken drivers. Sgt. Douglas Weddleton, was killed.

Five times gets you a grand for a bond? Not a good teaching moment for this skid mark on the underwear of life.

Maybe running over the Police will be a sobering experience. Hopefully while in jail somewhere.

Maybe now that she hit a cop, she'll get some real jail time. Considerinng it's her 5th offense, she deserves it !!!

Massachusetts is the most "LIBERAL STATE" in the Country ( NEW YORK and CALIFORNIA ) are close but nothing like MASS. The joke use to be "IF YOU WANT TO KILL SOMEONE DELIBERATELY , RUN THEM DOWN IN MASS , YOU ONLY GET A YEAR FOR AN O.U.I. VEHICULAR HOMICIDE".

There needs to be larger fines and stiffer penalties for drunk drivers.... some people NEVER learn... Come on... $1,ooo cash bail? Maybe the judge needs to attend a victims impact panel and actually SEE how drunk drivers affect families!

One way to keep her off the road is put her away for a long time.

Is the court system in that state so weak and meek she is actually still drivingt ?Amazing. The state legislature must not take drunk driving seriously there.I arrested a man from Canada one night, for d.u,.i. He told me that second offense in Canada is a life time license suspensiom.five years in the slam and a $10,000 fine.Sounds good to me.

How many times can you be arrested for DUI before you go to jail? In PA 3rd time sends you to the big house for a couple months to a year. Glad no one was hurt here. What the he** is up with a $1000 bond for almost killing someone. She should be charged with attempted vehicular manslaughter for every vehicle that was in or around the intersection at the time along with the Colonel. Hope the DA puts her where she belongs.
