IL Police Officer Charged With Murder

IL Police Officer Charged With Murder

Brian Dorian, 37

CHICAGO – Hours after a construction worker in Will County was fatally shot and an Indiana farmer was randomly gunned down in his bean fields Tuesday, then robbed as he played dead, a Schererville police officer pulled over a light-blue 1992 Chevrolet pickup and questioned the driver, sources said Friday.

Although the truck matched witness descriptions, police let him go without searching it after Brian Dorian, 37, a Lynwood police officer on disability leave, flashed his badge, sources said.

Still, the Tuesday night stop proved to be a crucial clue that led police Friday to charge Dorian with first-degree murder, sources said.

Described by friends and neighbors as a friendly man who loves baseball and bow hunting and dotes on his niece, Dorian was being held in lieu of $2.5 million bail at the Will County Jail.

Prosecutors on both sides of the state line said they expect more charges against Dorian, possibly Tuesday. He was arrested outside his Crete Township home Friday morning. Police also seized his pickup in Lynwood.

The shootings started Tuesday morning when a gunman walked into a burned-out home being rehabbed near rural Beecher and opened fire, killing worker Rolando Alonso, 45, and seriously wounding Josh Garza, 19. A 19-year-old co-worker escaped into a cornfield and called 911, police said.

About 40 minutes later, Keith Dahl, 64, was checking the bean fields on his property near Lowell, Ind., when he spotted a pickup truck approaching on the dirt road from the opposite direction, said his brother Robert Dahl. The two pickups stopped alongside each other, and the other man asked Keith Dahl about the possibility of storing honeybees on his property, then wrote down a name and phone number on a slip of paper, Robert Dahl said.

As Keith Dahl went to put the note in his center console, the man opened fire. Dahl played dead while the man wrestled Dahl’s wallet away, taking about $60, and then shot him again, Robert Dahl said.

“Keith said he was holding his breath and not trying to breathe,” said Robert Dahl. As blood poured from his wounds, Dahl drove to the nearest paved road and called 911.

Dorian’s family and many who knew him reacted with disbelief at the news he had been charged with murder.

“He’s not the guy — he wouldn’t be involved with something like this,” his brother Lance Dorian said in front of the family’s Lynwood home.

Well damn, I certainly heard about this when it happened as it was everywhere but I did not hear anything about them discovering that the Officer was innocent! Glad they got to the truth but they damn well shoulod have published it wide and far nationally that he was innocent and not just locally and here on PL.

I won't say anything bad about him, he is innocent until proven guilty, not enough evidence in this article. Whatever the results may be, I hope they catch the person responsible.

How quickly we judge the Honeybee killer while the real "oxygen thief" goes merrily on his way. Prayers for all.

We got the word at 2000 hours. Great news! News crews were surrounding the Will County Jail. One of Doran's attornies, a former Joliet PO and Lynwood part-timer, helped get him out. Again, States Attorney Glasgow goofed up. This is the same guy who refuses to charge aggravated battery to police officer charges against someone who hits a Joliet cop (this came out of his Office). This is the same SA who tried to convince a Grand Jury to convict (he failed) a Joliet PO who was trying to defend himself after getting his knee blown out by an arrestee.

Update - All Chicago news outlets are reporting that Officer Dorian was released and charges are to be dropped. Apparently he has a rock solid alibi for all the shootings. Another James Glaskow special...Let's jump to conclusions and ruin someone's life. Where can I donate to Officer Dorian's civil lawsuit fund?

I would definately like to see what in the world was going on in Dorian's head. A person, especially an Officer, does not wake up one day and decide that he feels like randomly shooting people.
