KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. — Authorities say a hit-and-run driver killed a police officer who was riding a bicycle on a rural central Indiana highway.
Police said the officer with the Greenfield Police Department was on an exercise ride with two other officers when he was hit about 12:30 a.m. Thursday along U.S. 40 near Knightstown.
Greenfield deputy police chief Derek Towle told WTHR-TV that the officers were wearing reflective clothing and had lights on their bikes. The officer was off duty and was working out for his position with the department’s bike patrol.
Investigators didn’t immediately have a firm description of the vehicle that drove away from the scene about 25 miles east of Indianapolis.
