Deputy Mark Longway was killed in a vehicle accident in downtown Tampa when his patrol car collided with a tractor trailer at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Scott Street at 5:15 am.

His patrol car became trapped underneath the trailer as a result of the collision. He had just completed his shift when the accident occurred.

Deputy Longway was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for six years. He is survived by his wife and two children.

TAMPA, Fla. — A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy has died from injuries sustained in a crash involving a tractor trailer in downtown Tampa.

The name of the deputy was not immediately released after the early Tuesday morning crash. A sheriff’s office report says the deputy and the truck collided in an intersection near an interstate overpass. One of the cars had a red light, but authorities did not immediately say who was at fault.

The deputy’s cruiser was underneath the semi truck. The deputy died at the scene. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Last week another Hillsborough deputy was involved in a serious traffic crash.
