Bar Fight Results in Officer's Death; Man Faces Potential Murder Charges
Associated Press
September 13, 2010
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Oklahoma police officer who was punched in the nose during a bar fight died after he hit the floor, and an Arkansas man likely faces a first-degree murder charge.
Police say 25-year-old Elzie Cain of Ardmore, Okla., got into a fight with 26-year-old Aaron Threlkeld of Sheridan at about 4 a.m. Sunday at the Electric Cowboy in southwest Little Rock.
Cain hit his head on the floor when he fell from the punch and was pronounced dead at a hospital Sunday afternoon. Little Rock police spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings says Threlkeld was arrested for first-degree battery but said he expects the charge to be upgraded to first-degree murder.
Cain was in the Little Rock area for sniper training as part of his duty with the Oklahoma National Guard.

RIP brother. You will be missed.
I agree with kuhnkejer; being a cop should not preclude you from doing things that are within your legal right when you're off duty. At the same time, if you're going to be in a bar, don't get drunk and rowdy. It's almost too easy to go from having a good time with your buddies to throwing fists at some guy in a bar for some reason that you can't remember when you sober up. Easy way to ruin a career.
I want more details about the case before I can support upgrading to a murder charge, but either way, sad story. My prayers go out to his family, his friends, and his home town.

Sad. RIP.
To robocop just because your a police officer doesn't mean your not aloud to go to a bar. People think we cops need to be held to a higher standard because of our job. Yes this is true but not to a standard that stops us from doing things that are not against the law. If he wants to hang out with friends then let him. He should not have to tell his buddies not tonight guys I'm a cop. That's wrong.

Not enough information to say if I agree with the upgrade of charges. I have witnessed to many incidents in bars in which an offduty officer was involved.

He fell after Threlkeld hit in in the face. Happened in my neck of the woods. Sad to hear no matter what.
