Police Use Billboard to Warn Tourists of Unsafe Atlantic City

Associated Press

August 20, 2010

ATLANTIC CITY — Visitors to Atlantic City will find a billboard warning them the seashore gaming resort isn’t safe.

The billboard is the work of the Policeman’s Benevolent Association, whose members are facing layoffs as the city tightens its budget.

The billboard on Route 30 west reads: “In AC, everyone wants to get lucky. With 73 less police officers, even the bad guys feel lucky. Save Atlantic City, save Atlantic City police officers.”

State PBA president Anthony Wieners says the ad is a last resort.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford’s administration in June laid off 20 police officers and plans to cut an additional 40 officers in September. Thirteen retiring officers won’t be replaced.
