Police Use Billboard to Warn Tourists of Unsafe Atlantic City

Associated Press

August 20, 2010

ATLANTIC CITY — Visitors to Atlantic City will find a billboard warning them the seashore gaming resort isn’t safe.

The billboard is the work of the Policeman’s Benevolent Association, whose members are facing layoffs as the city tightens its budget.

The billboard on Route 30 west reads: “In AC, everyone wants to get lucky. With 73 less police officers, even the bad guys feel lucky. Save Atlantic City, save Atlantic City police officers.”

State PBA president Anthony Wieners says the ad is a last resort.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford’s administration in June laid off 20 police officers and plans to cut an additional 40 officers in September. Thirteen retiring officers won’t be replaced.

we are facing layoffs also. We have already given concessions and they decided they wanted more. we are looking at an 18% reduction on staff while other departments in the city aren't losing anything. apparently peoples safety is not as essential as the collection of ones curbside trash or building permits around here. All these years in public service and this is just disgusting to know someone that helps others is just disregarded like trash.

LEO's are getting laid off all over the country and yet somehow these cities can still afford to pay all their politicians rediculously hefty salaries - sounds like it's time to start questioning some of their priorities!

Seems to be the pattern across the country. It's sad, very sad.
