Teen Becomes Hero To Sheriff's Office Canines

Randolph Co. Sheriff's Office

August 05, 2010

Asheboro, NC— Thanks to teenager in Randolph County, Canines will beat the heat with a cool gadget. Wednesday, Sgt. Scottie Hicks, a canine handler with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, was presented with four K-9 Cool Ventilation Systems.

The systems were donated by a Kaitlyn Carr, a Providence Grove High School graduate. They will be installed in each of the Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 vehicles. Carr, who graduated this year, recognized the need for the systems while being mentored by Sgt. Hicks and his K-9 “Inks.” She set up an account with the Randleman branch of Wachovia Bank and raised $260.00 through donations by area businesses and individuals.

She used all the money to purchase the ventilation systems. Sheriff Maynard B. Reid said, “the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office are very appreciative of the gift given by Kaitlyn Carr, and commend her for taking the initiative to improve the services provided by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Unit.”
