Police Rescue 3-Day-Old Puppies Left to Die in Plastic Bag
August 04, 2010
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Southfield police say they’ve rescued a pair of 3-day-old beagle puppies that were left to die outside in a tied plastic bag.
Lt. Nick Loussia tells the Detroit Free Press the puppies were found in a bag on the ground tied to a pole outside a home Monday afternoon. Someone called police after seeing the 74-year-old homeowner leaving the puppies.
Loussia says the puppies started moving and making sounds after they got fresh air.
He says the owner wanted to kill the puppies because he had other pets and they were “causing problems.”
He was cited for animal law violations, charges that carry up to 90 days in jail.
Authorities also took nine other dogs from the home. There’s no immediate word if the animals are adoptable.
