WASHINGTON – The sheriff of the most populous county in Arizona says he’s “not going to put up with any civil disobedience” when the state’s new immigration law takes effect.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says that if protesters want to block his jail, he’ll put them in it.

The Arizona law, which takes effect Thursday, requires officers enforcing other laws to check a person’s immigration status if they suspect the person is in the country illegally.

Arpaio told ABC’s “Good Morning America” he doesn’t know “what the big hype is.”

He says it’s “a crime to be here illegally and everyone should enforce” the law.

Hooray for Sheriff Joe....there are other states that are already enforcing and deporting illegals so it goes to prove that the Obama Administration is just trying to earn votes. We need an Attorney General who doesn't pick and chose which laws will be enforced and which ones will be ignored...Remember to vote in November.

Good response tootaboogy and agree with you. my last military roommate was a hispanic 23 yr. old and he joined the Marines Corps sametime I did and his reasoning was to be a U.S. citizen and do it right and not hav to look over his should for years to come from being caught. if anything immigrants can join the military, my unit also had a Nave Corpsman who obtain his citizenship through the Navy and he was from Ukrain.

God bless America, finally taking a stand against illegals. It's not the fact that they are immigrants from another country, it's the fact that they are here illegally. citizens and legal aliens alike, all have went through the process. They say, "Well I'm a political refugee from a third world country, I need help!" All right, there is a spot on the application you can fill that in, and you can gain entry to the United States LEGALLY. Of course, not every political refugee gets approved. To this I say, there are many, many, many countries out there that have jobs, resources, and WANT new citizens to obtain them. Please, live there temporarily until the process of becoming a US Citizen / Legal Alien is approved. There is no reason for violating a law of the land on your first step onto this beautiful country. It sends the wrong message.

Its not that hard for our people to understand, its thier liberalness thats interferring with the logisitcs and reality. Like I told my wife, it doesn't matter what race you are or what country you are from, but if you choose to live in any country illegaly and not be a citizen or try, but live as an illegal and that country/state passes a law for better screening of illegals and non-legals, then thats the chance and risk you and I take and would have no grounds to stand on for protest. This law is just a more better leverage for leos to check credentials.

i dont understand what is going through peoples' heads. It's not that complicated, if they are here illegally THEN THEY DONT BELONG HERE! i don't have a problem with immigrants who become citizens the right way..its the ones that take advantage of our laws and come here illegally that i have a problem with.
