WASHINGTON – The sheriff of the most populous county in Arizona says he’s “not going to put up with any civil disobedience” when the state’s new immigration law takes effect.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio says that if protesters want to block his jail, he’ll put them in it.

The Arizona law, which takes effect Thursday, requires officers enforcing other laws to check a person’s immigration status if they suspect the person is in the country illegally.

Arpaio told ABC’s “Good Morning America” he doesn’t know “what the big hype is.”

He says it’s “a crime to be here illegally and everyone should enforce” the law.

Just seems like a lot of politicians and judges forget where they are. This is still the United States and majority rules. These politicians and judges need to be held accountable to the majority and stop passing/ruling on crap they "believe" to be in our best interest or what the loud mouth special interest groups (that do not represent the majority) want. The best interest of the people of this country is what the majority wants (the majority is to be made up of LEGAL US citizens that have not been convicted of a felony over the age of 18). I would like to take that a step further and say your vote only counts if you are within legal voting age, a vet, work legally, or have worked legally having been laid off or let go due to the economy and have paid taxes, or have a REAL disability that prevents you from working. If you are a lasy idiot that is a sponge accepting money from the Gov't so you do not have to work, under the age od 18, illegal, a felon or do not pay taxes your opinion does not matter. The protests ddo not matter if they are held by non voting people wanting to get their way without having to pay into the system like the rest of us. why don't we use some of the wasted money from these useless social programs and paying for the medical care of illegals and use the money to start shipping them back to where they came from (and not at the border, drop them at the furthest point away from our border)The only people that without question deserve the best medical care for free is our elderly that worked and paid into the system their entire life. When they go for medical care the Gov't should have no say and just pay the bill. Other than that (with very few axceptions) everyone else should pay their way or pay for insurance, which by the way would be a hell of a lot cheaper if we did not have the expense of paying all the illegals medical care costs!!

What crimes, give a list. If somebody wants to get you for the most part they can. If you watch ssomeone long enough and are holding them to the letter you will find something at some point. Joe has a target on his back because he is not politics as usual.....which frankly is a breath of fresh air. We need a man like him to speak up about all the BS political correctness and say it like it is. He represents the majority, leave him alone and let him continue to do a great job for the people of his county. Oh, and please, when you submit a list tell me how you know and where you obtained your information.........I hope it is not word of mouth

first of all this is still America, close to being the North American Union, but until then i WILL use the term the gov't used wetback for an operation to get all the illegals out of this country so the legal Americans have jobs and can support their families it wasn't used in a disgusting manner. For the most part the protesters are illegal and don't want the local law enforcement arresting them because they have a free run right now. Our law makers know that we can't stop or detain anyone without P/C. I also agree with Sheriff Joe because he is the chief law enforcement officer of the county and he is not intimidated;
he knows the law and wiil ENFORCE it. GO JOE, YOUR THE MAN.

Many Legal immigrants of Hispanic origin are concerned as they will be stopped and asked for ID as well. How can you determine which is legal and which is illegal? You can determine that Oops they made a wide right turn. On go the lights for breaking a law. Need ID and insurance please! Just oh wide was the Wide Turn? My point is if you are looking for a reason to stop someone you can find a way to do it. I hope that true servitude to the citizens and protection of our laws will prevail and not hysteria over our borders are being invaded. Can we keep it in its proper perspective? Illegal immigration is not new. It has come across all borders and ports from east coast to west coast. There are so many things going on in this country like the woman sleeping in the park for whatever reason, meth labs with children free to run about in them, prison breaks, increase in domestic violence. I hope we do not get caught up in one issue ignoring the rest. Not agreeing with illegal entry. I think everyone should comply with the laws of this land. If we went there Mexico or whatever country they are coming from we would have to comply with their laws. Sorry for the long post.

They don't like Sheriff Joe because he is not intimidated by the racist rhetoric spewed from ethno-centric interest groups like La Raza! If the "illegals" don't like him and his deputies or what they are doing, then go back to where you came! This is OUR country and these are OUR laws! If you cannot conform or don't want to assimmilate or conform, don't bother crossing OUR border as we're not interested nor want you in OUR country! Don't go away mad, just GO AWAY! Maybe your own country will let you come back home.........

Good onya Joe.. I agree a Law is a Law. All laws should be enforced whether big or small and no excuses should be made. My biggest beef is the people who never indicate to change lanes etc. It is a wonder there are not more serious car accidents in the US than what there are. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK guys and thanks for your service.
