CHICAGO – Police fatally shot a man Thursday after an officer was struck by a vehicle on the South Side, officials said.

The man, who previously was accused of battering an officer, was shot near a fast-food restaurant at 75th and Lafayette streets.

It is unclear whether the man was driving the vehicle that hit the officer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police had stopped the man to question him. But the man attempted to drive away and was shot by an officer who feared for his partner’s life, officials said.
