Thanks for bringing the photos on line for us. Loved the gold phone. Can you imagine the stake burning that would occur with a current public official using such a phone. I think we are going back to those grey steel desks that i started on back in..."the old days".

You know with all of his alleged faults, and I no of no man that does not have any, He was the strongest leader of the FBI that I ever knew of. If as a law enforcement officer you or your department needed something that the local politicians would not or could not let you have, if you could prove an absolute need for whatever that was the place to go. I still have a friend that is a retired FBI whom was originally a Deputy Sheriff. Keep up the good work on this site. I seriously doubt that there will ever be another J. Edger Hoover or a man with any of the similar qualifications.

Almost got to meet Mr. Hoover, years ago. The local FBI Agent, the Sgt in charge of local State Police Crime Unit, a county Detective, One of our Captains and myself a police Detective. We waited in an ante room outside his offce for about 30 minutes, the FBI agent kept wiping his hands on the sides of his trousers and I asked why he was doing that, was he nervous? He said that the "Director hates to shake hands with a sweaty hand". Bottom line, we were stood up, he had other business to attend to.
