MD Trooper Ambushed, Slain While Talking on Phone

MD Trooper Ambushed, Slain While Talking on Phone

FORESTVILLE, Md. — Police were searching for a man who shot and killed an off-duty Maryland state trooper working security at a Prince George’s County restaurant early Friday.

Trooper Wesley Brown, 24, escorted a disorderly customer from an Applebee’s on Thursday evening and when he left the restaurant around 12:40 a.m. Friday, State Police Superintendent Col. Terrence Sheridan said that customer shot him.

Brown, who was wearing a jacket that clearly identified him as a police officer on the back, was talking on the phone in the parking lot of the restaurant and was shot without warning, Sheridan said.

Brown was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police closed the road to the shopping center where the shooting took place Friday morning with cruisers, vans and yellow police tape.

Some Applebee’s employees who were at the restaurant when the shooting occurred were just leaving Friday morning after being there all night, but declined to be interviewed.

Brown’s death has devastated the trooper’s law enforcement and personal family and the community he protected, Sheridan said.

“These men and women put their lives on the line and when this happens it goes against our society, it goes against everything we stand for,” said Sheridan, who visited the scene with Gov. Martin O’Malley on Friday morning.

O’Malley said that for now, police must focus on finding the shooter.

“There’s no way to make sense of a murder like this of a dedicated 24-year-old trooper who was doing his job and out there on the streets for us,” O’Malley said.

Brown was assigned to the Forestville barracks and was recently engaged to be married, Sheridan said.

State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said Brown was working off-duty. Many troopers do security work as part-time jobs, but it must be approved by the state police command, he said.

Police were searching the area for the gunman.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Trooper Wesley Brown and his brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement. May he rest in peace.

Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
    Amen.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide unit along with the assistance of the Maryland State Police and the Metropolitan Police Department has arrested two suspects in the murder of Maryland State Trooper Wesley Brown.

Anthony Anderson Milton, 28, and Cyril Cornelius Williams, 27, of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, both were charged with first degree murder.

“I am very proud of my homicide detectives and all of the law enforcement agencies for solving this case so quickly. This helps with the grieving process of family and friends honoring Trooper Brown’s memory knowing that two violent predators were removed from the streets. These types of cases are often very difficult to solve, and it was through the hard work and determination of the community, Prince George’s County Crime Solvers, Applebee’s and all media outlets that helped close this case quickly,” said Chief of Police Roberto L. Hylton.

Rest in peace Trooper Brown. May the cowardly piece of crap that shot you get his appropriate punishment, and I don't mean apprehended, plea bargain, and all that I mean real justice.

Two men have been arrested for this. One had been charged with attempting to murder a Prince Georges County Officer but charges were dropped when a witness failed to appear in that case.
