Stolen ATM Machine Recovered; Burglary Suspect Arrested
May 27, 2010
PRUNEDALE — Monterey County sheriff’s deputies found a stolen van wrecked with a stolen ATM and a crowbar inside on Prunedale Road early Wednesday and tied the crash to a burglary at a nearby liquor store and a second crime in Morgan Hill, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department reported.
A San Leandro man has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to deputies.
Kevin Bazar, 27, and a second man allegedly used a crow bar to break into the store, on the 8000 block of San Miguel Canyon Road in Prunedale, around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. They attached a tow strap to the ATM and yanked the ATM off the floor by pulling it with the van, deputies reported.
But they crashed the van down the road and fled. The tow strap was still attached to the van’s hitch and wrapped around the ATM machine, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Bazar was arrested later in the same area. The second burglar, described as a white man in his 20s wearing a hooded sweatshirt, remains at-large.
The burglary is similar to an incident earlier Wednesday in Morgan Hill. Detectives are investigating the connection.
Also, the white 1999 Ford E-150 van had been reported stolen from San Jose, deputies said.
