Two Boston Officers Involved in Separate Crashes Just Moments Apart

May 27, 2010
BOSTON – Two Boston Police officers – one of whom was off-duty — were injured today in two crashes that took place within moments and six blocks of each other on the same major Roxbury road, police said.
Department spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll said the first crash took place around 10:25 a.m. when an off-duty officer riding on his personal motorcycle was involved in a motor vehicle crash.
That crash took place near the intersection of Warren Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, Driscoll said.
The second officer, who was on duty and riding a department motorcycle, had been alerted to the crash and was heading to the scene when he was involved in a second, separate motor vehicle crash, she said.
The second crash occurred around 564 Warren St., Driscoll said. The incidents took place about six blocks apart.
Police said both officers were rushed to Boston Medical Center. Police initially said the officers "appear to be OK,’’ but now are saying they are waiting for updates before commenting further on their medical conditions.
Both crashes are actively being investigated by the department, Driscoll said.
