Deputy Slain on 2nd Day Back from Afghan Deployment
Associated Press
April 27, 2010
UPDATE: The Nye County sheriff’s office says a deputy killed in a shootout with a man wielding an assault rifle in a rural Nevada casino parking lot was 27-year-old Ian Deutch (DOY’tch).
Sheriff Tony DeMeo says the gunman was killed by another deputy in Monday’s shooting about 60 miles west of Las Vegas. The gunman hasn’t been identified.
Deutch was in his second day back at his police job after returning from military duty last month with the Nevada Army National Guard in Afghanistan.
Sheriff’s deputies were responding to a 911 call from a woman who fled to Terrible’s Lakeside Casino & RV Park after a domestic argument and gunfire at a home nearby.
DeMeo says the gunman opened fire with an assault rifle as deputies arrived.
PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) — A deputy sheriff who was shot Monday while responding to a domestic disturbance report about 60 miles west of Las Vegas has died.
The Nye County Sheriff’s Office says when deputies arrived at Terrible’s Lakeside RV Resort in Pahrump, the suspect pulled a rifle out of his vehicle and opened fire without warning. The officers returned fire and killed the suspect.
The sheriff’s office says one of the deputies was shot several times and was taken to a Las Vegas hospital, where he underwent surgery but died.
His name and that of the suspect were not released.
Nye County Sheriff Anthony DeMeo told KLAS-TV that the deputy was 27 years old, had recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan and it was his second day back.

Yet again, another sad story. I too have been to combat and back, and feel completely saddend by the loss of another soldier/ officer, who put his life on the line, in more ways than one, serving our great country and the community for which he proudly represented. God rest your soul, brother.

"Our Fallen Brother"
As I held him close, I began to cry
Wondering and hoping our friend would never die
I could see the whites of his eyes, as he held me tight
The wind whisked through his hair, as we saw the light
He cried no more as we fell to the ground
His one single tear, would never be found
Cry not my friend God will take you home
The Angels in Heaven will not be alone
You're safe and well as a child to his mother
You will always be remembered as
OUR FALLEN BROTHER
