WASHINGTON, D.C. – An off-duty District of Columbia police officer’s service weapon was taken during a carjacking in East Baltimore on Monday night, city police confirmed.
The 44-year-old officer told police he was driving home on Harford Road and East 25th Street at about 11:40 p.m. when a woman stepped in front of his car and a man armed with a handgun ordered him out of the vehicle, police said.
The man and woman drove off in the car, a black Dodge Magnum, but were tracked down by city police in the 1200 block of E. Chase St. Officers initiated a pursuit and eventually located the car idling and unoccupied in the 1800 block of Collington Ave., police said.
A woman matching the description of the woman who had stepped in front of the car was discovered hiding behind an oil drum and was arrested.
Police said Keara Moodie, 18, was charged with motor vehicle theft and related charges. The officer, who was driving away from his East Baltimore home at the time of the carjacking, said his service weapon was inside the car, but police did not recover it.

Yeah I think he was probably under one of the ridiculous rules of carry where you need to disarm and leave your weapon unattended in a car etc.. An invitation for disaster..STOP WITH THEIDIOT LAWS ALREADY..The best place for a weapon is on ones side..period..DOn't care if your mommy told not to play with one or not..Didn't hear ANY of the victims of the Church shooting complain that here was a CCW in the church, you know the one who saved their lives... Stop with the stupidity already.. I can't even go to diner w/o removing my weapon,.....Yeah, it's much safer in my glove box..SEE
A bit of a rant...sorry but true and accurate

If his gun had been properly carried on his person, there might have been a different outcome.

A holster would likely have prevented the theft of the firearm so long as said firearm was in the holster and the holster somehow attached to the off duty officer. Said combination may have also resulted in ending the incident with one DOA and another in custody. Even if he let the car go, at least he would still have his duty weapon.

Well it doesn't say the whole story as to why he didn't have his gun on him, he might have been told to leave it in there. Glad the officer is alright though, I hope they catch the perp!

Thank god the officer wasn't hurt and they got his car back, now I hope they find the weapon before someone gets hurt with it.
