Deputy's Practical Joke Hits Bottom [Video]

Associated Press

April 13, 2010

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) – A Collier County deputy was reprimanded after shocking a colleague with a Taser in an incident meant to be a joke. The December scene was caught on tape at the Collier County jail. A female deputy was seen showing a message on her iPod to Cpl. Wilmer A. Arencibia, who followed the woman and shocked her on the behind with his Taser.

Arencibia told investigators it was “a spur of the moment thing” and acknowledged the behavior was improper.

He was given a reprimand and final warning after an internal investigation.

Um, it's never been a job to me, it has always been a passion and something I enjoy immensely. Definitley dont do it for the paycheck, shoot, I'd do it for free if I didn't need to pay the bills and support a family.
If its just a job to you, then you should seriously consider another profession.

I am not a Police officer (yet). The way I look at this situation is it's wrong. They could be married with five children it still doesn't make a difference. The video clearly shows they are in the work place, mischief like this is not tolerated at any other job, and it shouldn't be tolerated here. Now I wouldn't go as far as firing the man like some of these other posts recomend, nor do I think a suspension should be issued. A simple warning is all that is needed. After the warning, then the disciplinary action taken should be more harsh.

Today's Law Enforcement Officers are Trained Differently and with a Different Mind Set. The video I just watched was nothing more then a stupid prank done in the Station away from the general public. "WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE RELATION SHIP BETWEEN THE TWO OFFICERS ARE , WE DON'T KNOW THE CONVERSATION THAT TOOK PLACE PRIOR TO THE ZAPPING , MANY THINGS ARE UNKNOWN". How are we to form a "Bedrock Decision" o this incident without any information? They may do this all the time for all we know. No charges were filed ( WHY NOT IF THIS WAS SUCH A DEVASTATING EVENT?).
jbellvpd , today is a different world then 30 years ago. "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS OVER THE TOP" is the order of the day. It is expected that todays cops are "ROBOTS" and have never had a "CHOIR PRACTICE IN THEIR LIVES" , and because of some of their new toys , it's probably best they don't.
"I HATE TO THINK ABOUT THE NIGHT I TRANKED A SKUNK AND PUT IT IN AN OFFICERS PRIVATE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT , OR THE NIGHT THE ENTIRE SECOND SHIFT PUT MOLASSES AND PILLOW FEATHERS ON THERE SGTS. OWN CAR IN HIS DRIVE WAY". Now they blow off steam in other ways that are sometimes much more Politically Correct and I won't even go into that on a public forum. Who am I to criticize anyone as I have done my share of "Real Life Human Mischief"?

I have read most of the posts here and want only to say that we don't have all of the information to make a judgment on this, obviously the department has all of the information and their judgment was a reprimand and final warning. Case closed.

See, 3rdworld is exactly the reason why this should be law enforcement only, too chicken to put who they really are or where they live, probably has changed screen names several times to keep coming on here and try and stir things. Should use the name gutlesswonder next time.

I HADN'T READ THE OTHER POSTS UNTIL AFTER I POSTED. REALLY CHIEF, YOU REALLY GOING TO TRY AND SAY YOU NEVER PULLED PRANKS. YES IT WAS STUPID TO DO IT IN FRONT OF THE INMATES, YEAH HE TOOK A HUGE CHANCE IN GETTING A LAW SUIT, BUT LETS NOT BE LIKE ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE AND MAKE RASH JUDGEMENTS UNLESS SOMEONE HERE HAS TALKED TO THE OFFICERS INVOLVED AND KNOWS MORE. CHEIFMILAN IF YOU NEVER PULLED PRANKS THEN YOU GOT TO BE ONE OF THE ONES THAT DOESN'T BELIEVE IN LOOKING AFTER ONE ANOTHER. I KNOW THE TYPE, WOULD WRITE A FELLOW OFFICER FOR SPEEDING 1 MILE OVER. COME ON OLD GAURDS, WE PULLED PLENTY OF PRANKS.

This is a matter of professionalism, or lack thereof. This was done in a prisoner holding area, or so it looks. The deputy obviously acted before thinking his actions through. Much like every other profession there are idiots that slip in to this field through the cracks and do stupid things. This stupid thing was caught on video.

Cheese and Rice, some of you people just dont get it, it was a foolish prank thats it. I see a lot of people posting on here with user names and avatars that infer they are somehow LEO affiliated, but judging by their responses they surely have not walked in a real LEO's shoes or they would understand this type of conduct. While it certainly cannot be condoned by administrations, I think most administrators take it for what it is, and thats why I think the Sherrif of Collier County got it right in this instance, good for him for being reasonable. All you other p.c. wackos need to stop taking yourself to serious, like another poster stated, no one else does.

Personally, I think everyone needs to lighten up. Firefighters do this kind of stuff to each other everyday (to an even worse extent). But oh no, not us cops. Heaven forbid we try to have a little fun on the job. And to my Sister's in Law Enforcement......its not "sexual harassment" when a girl does it to a guy, or guy on guy (ok, get your heads out of the gutter). So why the double standard?
All I'm saying is, our job is stressful enough. Let’s have a little fun =)

Just juvenile. Not sure if I'm getting old or what, but this type of behavior by my colleagues really irritates me?
Had a training accident 9 years ago that I'm still paying for .......caused by horseplay like this.
    Grow up.
