ORLANDO, Fla. — Authorities in central Florida say an Orange County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a homeless man who threatened him with a knife.

Sheriff’s reports state the shooting happened early Friday after a deputy tried to confiscate a knife and other items from a transient at a gas station in Orlando.

The man allegedly punched the deputy in the face and ran away.

Authorities say a struggled ensued in which the deputy fired his Taser, missed, and ran after the man. When the deputy caught up to him, the homeless man allegedly pulled out a knife.

That’s when investigators say the deputy fired his weapon.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
