Shots Fired on Steps of Texas Capitol

The AP via YellowBrix

January 21, 2010

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas state police say one person is in custody after gunshots were fired on the south steps of the state Capitol. It wasn’t immediately clear if anybody was wounded.

More than half a dozen Texas Department of Public Safety cars descended on the Capitol Thursday afternoon, and officers toting rifles surrounded the building in Austin.

Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Lisa Block says the building is on lockdown and a suspect is in custody. A witnesses says he heard about three or four shots fired.

No other details were immediately available.

Bad guys 0, Good guys 1.

Actually the Department of Public Safety training facility is just a short distance from the Capitol. They should have been able to get there fast and it sounds like they did.

Shooting a gun at the Texas government... I'm surprised he's still breathing. Ya'll know how us trigger-happy Texans are :)

What a stupid place to open fire, it reminds me of the guy who opened fire on the white house back in '94 with as Ak-47... didn't take long for the secret service to get ahold of him. Good work officers, keep it up.

As crazy as these situations usually are, this is great news to quail a disturbance of this magnitude that could have been like so many that did not have a happy ending. Great Job Texas DPS. May God keep you all safe.
