MOUNT ORAB, OH – Authorities say a Mount Orab man who had been booked and released on drunk driving charges returned to the police station and shot an officer in the back, then was fatally shot himself.
Mount Orab Police Chief Bryan Mount says 61-year-old George Ruby of Mount Orab was killed about 4 a.m. Sunday. Patrolman Justin Conley was shot but was not seriously injured.
A few hours earlier, Conley had arrested Ruby on drunk driving charges. Ruby had been taken to the station 30 miles east of Cincinnati and released to his wife.
Police say Ruby returned later and opened fire when Conley walked out. Conley used his radio to call an officer inside the station, and the two exchanged fire with Ruby.
Ruby was pronounced dead at Mercy Mount Orab Hospital.
The state is investigating.

Good job LEO Conley. Glad you are the one walking. As for FutureKPD13, If that is how you think, then your future will only include a long line of numbers to identify you as an inmate. I hope if someone out there works with this guy they'll sit that person down and explain what law enforcement is about.

I agree with copper380 about the comment from futureKPD13. Thats complete bs. Why do you even want to be a cop future KPD13? Most people do it because they want to make the world a better place and to protect people. No, im not a cop, im only 18 but it has been my dream since i was a little kid to become one. The comment that you made can make cops look bad. I'm in the army and when one soldiers makes a mistake in theater its all over the news. All it takes is one ignorant person like yourself to make the rest of us look bad. I also agree that being a cop is not at all about the money or the glory because i know that their are a ton of other jobs i could do and make alot more money but nothing else would make me happy. I have to work a part time job outside of the army to make a living but i would never leave because i believe in making sacrifices for my country and all of the wonderful people in this country. God bless all who serve our country weither it be military member, cops, firefighter, or your everyday average citizen who is just trying to make a good honest living.

I pray for recovery for the wounded officer. While the gene pool was "purified" by taking himself out you have to wonder what is going on with people trying to kill LEOs. Is it the economy or something with everyone's state of mind or is it just a hatred for authority? This is just STUPID!!!

Can someone remove the comment by "futureKPD13" and I Quote, "we as police officer need to kill are enemies when were off duty and make it look legit..." . These are the comments that make us (current police officers) look bad and give the public a negative feeling toward the police. Go back to watching bad police films and forget about becoming a police officer because you do not have what it takes, making ignorant comments like that. I hope your screen name is not true (future KPD) and you will be weeded out before you have a chance to belittle the Flag, the Badge, Officers of this great nation or the department you want to be employed by!!! Being a cop is not for the glory, the pay or the benefits, it is in your heart to do RIGHT NO MATTER WHAT THE COST!! And remember, if you do somehow become the police and you are involved in an off duty shooting, lawyers are now pulling comments made by cops off of web sights and using them in court against us. Your one comment may come back to haunt you someday no matter how right you may be you will have casted doubt as to your integrity in the minds of the jurors. This will not only hurt you but ALL OFFICERS! Think before you post something or do us all a favor and just SHUT UP!

At our jail we keep everyone who comes in on an alcohol related charge (drunk in public, DUI, etc) a MINIMUM of 4-6 hours, or until we feel they are sober enough to not be a danger to themselves or someone else. Even if they're bailing out or O.R.'d.
People don't seem to understand the reasoning behind not just releasing them to a friend or relative. Perhaps they should read this article....

Unless the Justice System and our Court system is overhauled and these all to common scenes are appearing in a nation of civility and laws, this well become a common occurance unless we hold those is office RESPONSIBLE! Harsh penalites need to be put in place not only to protect LE, but the public. We should DEMAND IT! ,.,,,DEATH PENALTY TO COP KILLERS!!! NOW....
