Court Officer Killed in Courthouse Shooting [Video]

Statement by Director John F. Clark, U.S. Marshals Service, on the shootings this morning at the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in Las Vegas
WASHINGTON – I can receive no news more grim or sobering than word of a line-of-duty death or injury to our U.S. Marshals personnel, as was the case this morning at the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse in Las Vegas. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the court security officer who was killed, and the deputy marshal who was injured in this morning’s shooting. Words cannot express our concern and sorrow for all those impacted by this tragedy. Rest assured, the brave and immediate actions of these two individuals saved lives by stopping the threat of a reckless and callous gunman who had no regard for who or how many victims were struck down by his senseless actions. They are heroes.

That was quite an intense gunfight. I read the article but I guess I didn't fully appreciate the incident until I saw the video. R.I.P and speedy recovery to the injured officer

The economy is in the crapper and people are stupid/desperate. I pray this isn't a trend. I pray the Lord accept this warrior Home. I pray for comfort for his family and comrades. Justice was "administrated" and I pray the Lord judge the suspect as well. Never, never assume it is "just another day."

I have been saying to myself that this sort of tragedy was a time bomb waiting to explode at every significant government facility that has public access. Each time that I and my fellow Officers go to Fed Crt, we are asked to disarm and place all of our equipment to include weapons, ammo, radio, cs canister, PR-24 and any thing else that can be used as a defensive device into a lock box. And from what I can gather from this logic, is that the Marshal Service has this rule in place to prevent prisoners in their custody from gainning access to such items. But given the history of such violent incidents involving this type of an attack, I think that it is time to review the policy. Because in my opinion, I'd rather have a lobby full of armed Officers at any given time to react than a lobby full of unarmed Officers that would be at a disadvantage. What say you?
