I agree with lasvegascop a officer should be required to carry a weapon at all times. The sheriff's department I worked at in ohio in the early 70's required off duty also and if you was caught without it you were repromanded. The death toll in las vegas would have been considerably higher without the security they had.

Flosscop are you serious? in uniform or plain clothes, required by law to respond to a subpoena and testify, and they disarm you when you go to court? They tried that here years ago in our Juvenile Court and it didn't fly at all.. Your Dept needs to step up and say BS!!!. The only reason we cant wear our weapons to court is if it is a personal matter that we are going to court for (divorce, child custody, etc). If there had been other unarmed citizens or officers in the lobby area yesterday here in Vegas the loss would have been greater. All LEOs should be armed at all times on or off duty. If Cooper had been wearing body armor he would most likely be alive today and signing the papers to enjoy his retirement with his grand kids..

The court house our department uses requires officers even officers wearing their department issued uniform to disarm and lock up their weapons prior to entering court. How are we supposed to respond to something like the incident in Las Vegas when we are unarmed? I hope this would send a message to the courts that require officers to disarm prior to court.
My heart goes out to the fallen officer. R.I.P.

I agree with rogerdaleus, This is not the time or place for your insensitivity or your stupidity save it for the voting booth, as a retiree and former LEO My heart goes out to the friends and family of these and all fallen LEO's, just this morning a female deputy was shot and killed at a traffic stop.
We all need to pray for help from God to protect our LEO's and military. God bless you all.

What gets me is that the Federal Judges sit up in their thrones and complain about how they are being attacked on a rising level, and they are. But these guys, usually retired Police Officers, go to work every day to protect the Judges and the public in these Federal buildings but they are not issued body armor or bullet proof glass to stand behind, or any other type of protection from insane maniacs like this guy.. I hope the wounded guard recovers from his wounds and God bless the families of Officer Cooper

For those who fought for it, freedom has a price the protected will never know. Every day officers put on their uniform trying to make this world a safer and better place for all. The integrity, professionalism and attention to duty these officers diplayed in the line of fire saved many lives. May God bless you and render a salute to all officers who stands up for justice.
