We all like to think that we would have done something differently if this were to happen to us. The only truth to the matter is that "Brave" Law Enforcement Officers stepped into harms way to stop a mad man. Two were shot and one gave the ultimate sacrifice. These are the Heros of the day. May God Bless and take care of our brave brothers.

This brave officer gave the ultimate sacrifice and his loved ones should be very proud. May they find comfort and peace in a situation that doesn't make any sense. May our thoughts and prayers also be with our other brother who was injured while protecting others. In a situation like this it's hard not to be sobered and to realize our own mortality. Mundane everyday settings can turn violent at the drop of a hat and while heartbreaking that it happened the way it did it should be a lesson to all of us to wear our vests and watch our six at all times, at all costs. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ROUTINE IN THIS LINE OF WORK.

As an Atlanta Police Officer, when I got to the Fulton County Courthouse, the same courthouse that had the shooting back in 05, I have to give up my weapon when I got to court. Every single time. Even after the courthouse shooting & 3 people loosing their lives, we still have to do that.

May Officer Cooper rest in peace

I would like to day this when I first got in my field I was told being a cop or security guard or whatever long as u have a badge and uniform you are a moving target and to be aware of your surroundings back in 2000 that was drilled in all us well in 2006 I almot got killed now have PTSD and funny thing is i came down with cancer a year later and i never smoked and i got rid of that and dint die just like i almost died in th ER in 2006 then cancer came back and i was told i was going to die in 30 days and i found a differant Doctor and they saved me again so abunch of times i was 99 percent close to death but that one percent came threw this just goes to show you im going threw a devorice and we have a county officer for the county i like in that carries his side arm and sits in court room and thats just for a devorice when he heard what i used to do when the judge brought up me being on early retirment and where my benifits are comeing from and what i used to do even the judge treated me good and the court officer smiled at me and said have a nice day he heard about my old position about my old Protective Sergeant position and he said thanks for your service even thou i dint work for a city but a trailler park as a trailler park Protective agent which most city officers say they think we should wear a differant color we do but it looks navy blue instead of black and everything we where and drive look like ordary police which we hate cause someone could pick us off as one i had alot of peopleyell atme and give me crap cause what they thought by just seeing me and i always had to say no im not anything to do with police im just a Protective Sergeant and these people still said are u able to arrest i said yes to a ceratin extent and why do u carry everything on your belt just like the officers for the city i say cause we deal with the same stff and are required to as we take care of trailler park stuff crimes and everything that involes protection the city police need permission to even step foot or come in to are area and also when we ask for back up we call are back up but we have are dispatchj callthe police dispatch tosend the police to take someone we arrested or for back up werid how it all works I just wish we would have be sworn in why carry and drive and have almost the same title when ur not considered a cop i mean thats just nuts and once we where off are patrol area we where nothing yet we where find driveing are squads with red and blue leds since they where not let up and we couldnt pull code some times we are asked to be a 2nd patrol for county officers in courtrooms and deal with stuff but we where trainerd in weapon renteion and how to get are firearms back best thing to have is a so called firearm string or whatever you call thouse things so it doesnt leave you or go far would save more lifes they should make guns with finger print scanner on the grip so only the aissgened officer with the gun can fire it other wise someone esle with it it woouldnot fire and send out a alert with gps to show where the gun is so the person can be tracked own with a gun that does not fire there u go thats just my 2 cents on all this

Rip in Peace Officer Stanley, and a speedy recovery to the injured officer. I have a friend who relocated to Las Vegas, I worked with her up here in the Police Dept. She has several friends on the Vegas Dept and I am sure she will be thinking of them, with this news, as will I as I have met some of them. They have all been remarkable people.
As for what Flosscop said..Who fell feel and bumped their head!!!! I cannot believe that they would expect officers to disarm to go to court. I can see them not allowing the pulbic into the courts with any weapons but officers whether on or off duty should be armed when attending court.
