Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Deputy Sheriff John Bernard, his family and brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement, may you find solace in the days to come. Rest in Peace Brother, may you find peace as you and Saint Michael watch over your family and brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement.
Police Officers Prayer to Saint Michael
Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premisesof all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgment.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people. Amen.

It's pathetic that our LEO brothers and sisters are being killed senselessly!! I know they all died doing the job they love. But this? This is an absolute outrage to ANYONE!! My deepest condolences go out to the officer that lost his life and his family, including the Las Vegas community, and I pray for a full recovery to the officer was hurt. May God have mercy on that scum bag's soul for having no empathy for ANY human life. Now my question is this: how did he get the gun inside the court house to begin with? We have screening stations and metal detectors in our court house, jail and common buildings. Have had them before I started working for the Sheriff 9 years ago! EVERY courthouse, jail and other common public access buildings should have these set up as screening stations and not wait for something horrible like this happen.

Listening to radio news reports, the court officer was a retired Metro-Las Vegas Police Officer with approximately 20 years on and currently working a retirement security gig.
