Colo. Woman Accused Of Making 48 False 911 Calls

December 22, 2009
GREELEY, Colo. — Sheriff’s officials arrested a woman suspected of making up to 48 false distress calls to 911 in a four-month period.
The woman, 44, was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempting to influence a public servant, false reporting and resisting arrest.
Sheriff’s officials said a caller using a prepaid mobile phone would say she was going to kill herself or have officers shoot her. Other times she reported her mother had a heart attack and wasn’t breathing. Emergency responders were never able to find the woman in the spots where she said she was.
Sheriff’s officials said they arrested the woman with help from a phone company.

The county should sue her for the money spent on responding to those calls.

The lady was a volunteer firefighter in the area where the calls were made. I’ve heard of dispatching yourself to calls but damn…

She'll end up on probation... As sad as this story is, I only see some community service in her future. Working in a S.O. , I find myself in dispatch often and see how frustrating it is for the dispatchers when someone abuses 9-1-1. Some people seriously do need rescue, fire and police help. Taking these services away from people who need them because your toe hurts, doesn't fit the qualifications of an emergency call. Until the punishment for this crime becomes more serious, I can see this as a constant pattern. Very sad. Not to mention the cost involved.

Glad she's in custody. It's these kinds of things that place first-responders(cops, EMTs, firefighters, etc.) in so much danger as they go to these calls. She needs to spend time far, FAR away from any phone lines, PERIOD !!

As someone who deals with these poeple all shift long... I think some jail time, or nice fines might be a good thing to use.. We all have our frequent callers, but how much does it cost to send out two or three cars, and full fire/medical response to a false call>? I sure would like to have had a raise this year.....Lock her up.. get her a counselor

It appears that you were looking for attention. Now that you have our attention... what are you going to do with it? Maybe she will learn, but probably not.
