Having your vehicle, especially when off duty or in a personal vehicle, pelted with some snow balls is NOT an excuse to stop, exit, and DRAW your weapon! A snowball can be packed hard and can hurt, so how stupid can a person be to stop and exit their vehicle to walk into this? Unless this person is attempting to abuse his power?
For non-LEO drawing your weapon can get you into a pile of shit-even if you are threatened! So why should an LEO be above the law and draw his or her weapon at a whim? But then, we are dealing with D.C. with its NAZI/Communist anti-gun, police as elitists mentality pissing on the Bill of Rights.
What this "officer" did was bullshit. The "missile" excuse is also bullshit! It is abuse of power! How the HELL is the public supposed to trust and admire police when they are being stripped of their rights and police are given more and more power?
What needs to happen is supporting RIGHT, NOT MIGHT! A badge does not make any of us right! Otherwise what we have is nothing but despotism.
And, by the way, if the pay is so bad being an LEO, then GET ANOTHER JOB!!! Enough of the bitching and moaning over pay! Yeah, it should be better, for others too-but stop making that an excuse! Are people supposed to just shut up and take shit from corrupt or abusive cops just because their pay sucks? That's the kind of bullshit ideology that inspires that gangsta rap bullshit!
And the only person defending someone from getting raped or murdered is almost exclusively the would-be victim-when they are armed! Police arrive to gather evidence and document the crime! Any LEO who denies this is a LIAR! So please, lets cut out the LEO=knight in shinning armor nonsense. A free and good society lies not in the hands of the police, but in the private citizen.

Do some of you so-called cops know what a draw is? All he did is unholster his weapon. I don't see him threatening anyone.

Just in case people missed it.. The Detective must have I.D himself, because he was recieving chants and taunts at one point of "EFF YOU PIG". So no mistaken Identification there. Next the detective got out of his vehicle after it was hit with "snowballs". 18.2-279 .. that is the Virginia Criminal Code for "firing or THROWING any projectile or missile at or in any occupied building or dwelling" this has been extended to include vehicles and it's a felony. So once the first snowball hit his vehicle a crime/felony was in progress. We have a duty to act. Personally I would have radioed for assistance before getting out to further asses the situation but as far as I see he had solid resoning for exiting his POV-- a felony being commited in his presence-- and after he he was identified as a LEO he was still assualted by at least one individual. And with everything going on in the world concerning LEO's (the state of Washington comes to mind), I cannot fully blame him for how he reacted. We have very few supporters as it is. The general public/population only like/respect us when life hands then some lemons, and expect us to walk on water or turn it to wine, then dissappear. And to be picky about it....you have a large crowd of people( let me see your permit because a "snowball fight" is not a peacful demonstration) in an intersection of street where people are trying to navigate their vehicles, without hitting other cars now idiots on foot ar e being added to the perilous driving conditions. If anything his presence probally saved some snot-nose dingleberry from running in to the street and getting hit. Hope his superiors take that in to consideration before jumping the gun for fear of public opinion. They shouldn't fear what they already know, and what was made painfully obvious by how this officer of 25 years was taunted and name-called by the people he has sworn and for 25 years served and protected. PUBLIC OPINION = NO RESPECT.

Adrenaline, I hope you're not serious. If you are, how the hell did you get on this site? Whoever wrote those lyrics should have their ass beat. I'll bet they wouldn't be talking all of that shit when one of those "Punks" saves your dumb ass from getting beat and gang raped in some back alley because you think you're a bad ass. How about this, if you're going to post anything here, show some fucking respect to the men and women who serve you for pennies. Stop being a fuck-tard and you won't have those "lights flashin behind you".

And what's with the bullshit Gangsta rap posted by Adrenaline, are you kidding me with that shit, it's that kind of garbage that makes everyone wanna pop a cap in your ass. If you appreciate those kind of lyrics or anyone who talks like that, then you obviously have a hard time blending with members of society who are successful or have an IQ higher than their shoe size. RAP SUCKS !!!!

First of all, who ever said a snow ball can't be considered dangerous? You can obviously pack them tight enough to be used as a weapon. I don't know about anyone else but I wouldn't want to be hit with one in the face or anywhere else for that matter. If everyones getting bent out of shape because this officer stepped out into a barrage of snowballs with his gun in his hand then ask yourself if he should have drawn his weapon under a barrage of baseballs. There the same size pretty much and can do about the same amount of damage or injury when packed right and thrown hard enough. Everybody is pitchin a bitch because he stopped the mahem. He's trained to know when to fire his weapon and when not to. If you don't want the police to get involved then don't start what amounts to a riot with a bunch of people randomly pelting each other and vehicles in a display that was obviously not controlled and disturbing the peace for others not involved. Get off the cops ass and find something better to do with twitter than to show the world how easily a bunch of brain dead good for nothings will follow some assholes advice in a public place. These fucking idiots are lucky someone didn't get shot.

Isn't DC the capital of murder in the US? Not a real safe place to work even in a major snow ball fight. Sure looked as though it could have easily turned into a riot. I'm not going to judge the guy because I wasn't there.

Unless there is another video, the video I see is a Detective responding and shaking hi radio. The gun is in his hand,,,, but palmed. We don't know what caused the reaction but he wasn't waving the gun in the video I observed. Just get the facts before passing judgment. He may have seen something the video doesn't portray. Maybe we missed something not on video. The Detective seemed calm. Just the facts please.

Well it's in DEE CEE, f'cryin' out loud. Not exactly the hotbed of professional law enforcement. Yes, Metro P D does have SOME good officers, many are 'top-of-the-line". Remember, though, DeeCee is one of only 2 places where Virginia Officers are automatically blocked and interfered with if they pursue escaping suspects into that area. Might as well be Mexico; Dee Cee is just one more foreign jurisdiction as far as law enforcement goes. Look who they got for a mayor. That's proof enough.

i'VE WORKED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT IN dc FOR 30 SOME YEARS AND THIS FAILS TO SURPRIZE ME , EITHER THE OFFICER OR KNEE JERK REACTION BY THE DEPARTMENT, BOTH WERE STUPID MOVES BUT IN THIS AREA THIS IS MORE THE NORM THAN NOT, MOST OF THE COPS HERE ARE HARD WORKING DEDICATED PEOPLE, IT'S JUST THAT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN DC IS AN INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT IN MINUTES BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION AND THE LIBERAL MEDIA

BTW, The photo caption was wrong. The officer on the left who is white was responding to a call that a man had a gun. He WAS in uniform. The officer in question is the black man in the black parka on the right who was a plain clothes detective. I thought the plain clothes was brandishing his weapon, but it turns out that was a radio. This raw version of the video shows the whole thing: http://is.gd/5AqqO
I don't know why this was a cause to have out the police. It was a freaking snowball fight. And the call about a man with a gun came because of the plains clothed officer! It seems this was less about stopping dangerous activity or investigation than having snowballs through at himself and/or his vehicle! If you watch the video he was grabbing his gun and saying, "Just throw another snowball." I would view this as he was threatening to USE that weapon if they hit him with a snowball. I don't think the second officer was at fault because he was answering a call of a "man with a gun" and certainly didn't know what he was going to find. But the plainclothesman over reacted.
