FEDERAL WAY – A police officer shot and killed an unidentified person following a domestic violence call Saturday afternoon.

The shooting took place near the Corner Mart convenience store at the corner of 272nd Street and Pacific Highway South following a brief pursuit, Des Moines police said.

Medics responded at about 3 p.m., and treated the shooting victim with CPR, but he died of his injuries, officials said.

Police said the incident began when officers responded to a domestic violence call involving a gun in Des Moines.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect ran away. There was a brief pursuit that ended at the Corner Mart, as shots were fired.

It was not immediately known how many shots were fired, or whether the suspect fired any of the shots.

When it was all over, the unidentified suspect lay dead in the parking lot. No officers were hurt.

The intersection where the shooting took place is bordered by Des Moines to the northwest, Kent to the northeast and Federal Way to the south.

The pursuit began in Des Moines, and the victim fell to the ground just a few feet inside Federal Way.

Doug Taylor and his 3-year-old son were in a nearby barbershop as the incident unfolded. Taylor said he immediately grabbed his son and took him to the back of the shop when he heard gunshots.

“I kind of just held him down and covered him up,” Taylor said. “And then once the barber told us the policeman sort of had the situation under control, but he was still worried about where the assailants could have gone we huddled in the back and everybody was together in the back.”
