Ariz. Officer Killed by Patrol Car in Chase
The AP via YellowBrix
December 18, 2009
The Department of Public Safety says 28-year-old Chris Marano died Thursday night.
Lt. Steve Harrison says the chase reached speeds of 100 mph, starting after a vehicle was spotted with a stolen license plate.
As another officer pursued the suspect, Marano laid down spike strips to stop the suspect’s vehicle. The DPS vehicle struck Marano in the roadway. Authorities are trying to determine if the suspect’s car also hit him.
The chase continued and the female driver fled on foot and was captured hiding on a porch. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of dog bites and faces several felony charges.

Rest in peace Trooper Marano, may God comfort the loved ones you leave behind and may He also help the trooper responsible for your death to come to grips with what he did and give him solace. I am sure he is struggling with what has happened and needs our prayers as much as the family of Trooper Marano does.

I was born in Phoenix and raised in Casa Grande so Arizona will always be my "home". God bless Officer Marano, his family and friends and help ease their pain at this terrible loss. Hopefully this will bring focus on a problem that seems to be present in the deployment and/or retrieval of spike strips. They're supposed to bring pursuits to a safe and rapid end, not kill officers.

Horrible! To lose an Officer anytime is tragic but even more so near Christmas and at the hands of another Officer no less. I can only pray that the suspect is the one who hit and killed the Officer first. That would be at least a little easing of the pain by the other Officer. The suspect is of course going to be charged with murder and should get at least life without parole if not the death penalty for this.
*** Well said Robocop33, all of our prayers go out to Officer Marano's families and to all the other officers involved. I am getting sick of getting these emails, hopefully we can go for awhile without another one. GOD BLESS and everyone lets be safe out there.*******

Another example of how very dangerous our profession is. God Bless Officer Marano and his family. My prayers are also with the other Officer involved. May you find the strength and support to deal with this tragic situation.
