Sources: Off-Duty Cop Had BAC Level Of .21

November 07, 2009
Law enforcement sources say the off-duty police officer accused of a DWI that killed a Bronx woman had a blood alcohol level of .21. That's two and a half times the legal limit. Kevin Spellman, 42, is charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated. It took police more than five hours to draw his blood after he refused a Breathalyzer test after the crash, which happened Friday morning on Kingsbridge Avenue. Meanwhile, a viewing was held Monday for the victim, Drana Nikac, 67. Her body will now be flown to Albania for burial. In the wake of this and another recent deadly accident involving a police officer, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly is ordering an investigation into city procedure involving drug and alcohol tests.

.21 ewwww thats UP there. Sounds like Spellman needs some help. Not only has ended a life he will spend a good portion of his life behind bars for this and has destroyed any chance of a career in law enforcement as well.
Let this PLEASE be a warning and a lession to the brothers and sisters in blue that we need to be our brothers keepers and need to look out for people when they start to drink like this.
Be bold and step in trust me I thnk every person in law enforcement has seen someone throw a career away or ruin a marrage based on substance abouse. Step in there and tell them they need help. They may hate you today and tomorrow but the someday will hit them.
I had a good friend who drank crazy amounts of alcohol yet still managed to show up sober and work. We basicly beat him to the point we and his wife could carry him to a inpaitent rehab center and work gave him the time off to get straight .
He MF'ed us for almost 2 years publicly and privately until we did not see him for almost a month and he had gone back into rehab on his own and came out a far better man, officer, husband and cop.
Today he says sorry every time we meet for the way he acted and things he said but he is clean and knows he would be ired or worse if he had kept it up.
