Authorities recently busted a major drug trafficking ring in the Bronx. Officials announced Wednesday that 53 people are charged for heroine and crack cocaine distribution after 450 officers and agents raided the Melrose and Andrew Jackson Housing Projects in Morrisania. They said 37 people were arrested, three were already in custody and the rest are still being sought. The sweep came after a long-term investigation dubbed "Operation Rotten Apple," in which authorities made more than 30 undercover drug purchases over several months. "We know there are many happy residents today because they know the price of drug dealing and they also know it's much more than just money," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. "There's an awful lot of violence attached to the drug trade."
