Los Angeles police are searching for a man who impersonates an undercover officer, then robs victims at gunpoint.
Police say the suspect has approached several victims in the late morning and early afternoon hours in various communities in the city dressed as a plain clothes police officer.
With a badge clipped to a gun belt, he identifies himself as a police officer and begins to search the victims to remove cash or wallets. The man has been seen wearing a dark polo-style shirt and blue jeans.
Police say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information about the crimes is urged to contact the LAPD.

If someone violated my rights and begun searching me, that would be a red flag!

DRESSED AS A PLAINCLOTHES OFFICER? Exactly what does a plainclothes officer wear? I do believe the title PLAINCLOTHES encompasses anything other than a uniform. Is it me or is the article lacking specifics? What is his means of escape? Walking, running or driving. Driving what? car, motorcycle, moped or skateboard???

Why isn't it the impersonators who ever stop and search the wack job with a gun? First time they get shot at trying to impersonate the police we won't have to worry about them doing it again.

I agree, I'm going to start lobbying the General Assembly to upgrade the impersonation statute to at least a Class 6 felony.

How about this: 10 years MANDATORY SENTENCE for anyone impersonating a LEO regardless of the circumstances, and in addition to further penalties for any other crime commited in association... ?
That may make them think twice...

This impersonator stuff has to stop. It's about time lawmakers take a serious look at this and make impersonators sentences much harsher.
