Police Dog Found Shot To Death

BARNESVILLE, Ga -- A Griffin police dog has been found shot to death, and the officer he worked with is offering a $500 reward in the case. The Herald-Gazette newspaper in Barnesville reports that Griffin officer Chad Moxon, who lives in Lamar County, says the dog, called Jimi, was taken from the kennel at his home on Monday along with his other dog while he was at the Griffin firing range. Moxon says the dog's body was found at the side of the road near Yatesville on Wednesday. He says his other dog was found alive but had been badly beaten.

The dog was an LEO as he was... it's murderer should get the book thrown at him. I have no use for anyone who harms an animal (especially dogs... I LOVE DOGS) but to kill a police K9 just because it's a police K9 and take the man's other dog and beat it up is just disgusting. I kind of wish I hadn't just ate because stuff like this makes me sick to my stomach.

If one of those is an agency working dog, the area where it occurred, no matter how long ago, should be worked up as a crime scene - homicide and invite forensics.

From my experience and reading this article, it sounds like an inside job. Someone who knew the officers schedule and had opportunity to take the dogs. It had to be someone he knew in order to get close to the dogs without getting bit. I wonder if the officer had dealings with another officer or an offender recently....
