A man accused in several armed robberies in two states has been captured in Las Vegas.
Metro says the suspect was arrested while he was planning a local robbery, then discovered his alleged connection to holdups in Colorado and New Mexico.
They say they stopped that from happening, and when they searched his house they found so much more, including $25,000 worth of pipes, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and $400,000 worth of gold jewelry, designed by a Senator.
It turns out the jewelry belongs to former U.S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who is a well known Colorado Senator turned jewelry designer.
In December, a chunk of Ben Nighthorse Campbell's treasure disappeared, it was stolen in an armed robbery of a Durango Colorado Gallery.
When Metro started working with Colorado police they discovered Combs' alleged spree.
They say it started in 2005 with three armed robberies at a couple check cashing stores and a subway in Durango.
They're also connecting Combs with robberies in Farmington, New Mexico, and they say in 2008 he robbed a jewelry gallery in Durango along with rabbit hole novelty shops, where the pipes allegedly came from.
He is also under investigation for being in possession of several unregistered firearms.
It all started when Metro got a tip that 28-year-old Brett Combs was looking to rob a coin truck.
