(Nov. 3) -- A convicted rapist was charged with five counts of murder Tuesday as police uncovered at least four more bodies at his Cleveland home, bringing the total to at least 10, authorities said.
Police planned to continue searching Anthony Sowell's three-story home throughout the night. A search warrant obtained over the weekend gave police permission take apart the house brick by brick if necessary, police sources said.
A University of Akron professor who specializes in serial killing cases wasn't surprised that four more bodies had been found at Sowell's home. She predicted there will be even more.
"This is going to take months," said Mary Myers, a former Akron police captain who is a psychologist and an associate professor of criminal justice. "They are going to have to search every place where he's ever felt comfortable."
Sowell, 50, has been in custody since Saturday, after police found six bodies last week at his home in the impoverished Mount Pleasant section of Cleveland. Investigators said the six were all homicide victims and all were women. At least five had been strangled. The cause of death for the sixth could not immediately be determined.
Sowell had lived in the house since he was released from prison in 2005. He served 15 years for a 1989 rape of a pregnant woman, according to The Plain Dealer. The Cleveland newspaper cited police reports that indicated the woman escaped by climbing through a third-floor window to a rooftop and shouting for help, a necktie wrapped around her wrists.
"He choked me real hard because my body started tingling," the woman said, according to the police report. "I thought I was going to die."
