Mass. Officers Honored for Valor

Twenty-seven law enforcement officers from across the state will be honored this morning for bravery during the annual Trooper George L. Hanna Jr. Memorial Awards Ceremony.
The State House ceremony will recognize officers and state troopers for their roles in 11 separate incidents, including apprehending armed suspects, rescuing two workers in a manhole stricken by noxious fumes, and subduing a gunman who had opened fire in a crowded nightclub, the state said.
The officers being honored hail from the state police as well as police departments in Boston, Springfield, Revere, Brockton, Framingham and at Boston College.
The awards are named for Hanna, a state trooper who was fatally shot on Feb. 26, 1983 by three assailants during a motor vehicle stop in Auburn. Hanna left his wife, Marilyn, and three children, Deborah, Kimberly and Michael.
The Hanna awards have been given out annually since 1983.

Anyone who ever knew or worked with George can understand the "Stature of the Accomplishment" needed to receive that award. The night he was "ASSASSINATED" is still very vivid in my mind because I was on the scene shortly after the shooting just over my Town's line. George had a heart of gold and a wonderful Family that was left behind. Anyone receiving this Award is a "One of a Kind". February 26th. every year makes me remember all the details and heart ache. May Gog Bless your Family forever and may you rest in peace Sir. Your friend forever.
