NEW YORK, NY – The Rev. Al Sharpton lashed out Sunday at the “unfair” treatment of his daughter and ex-wife by cops who arrested the duo for arguing over a traffic ticket in Harlem.
“I cannot imagine how two unarmed women with no record, could be taken in cuffs from a traffic dispute with NO personal or property damage involved,” Sharpton wrote in a string of angry postings on Twitter. “Well this is what we deal with everyday. We will never accept unfairness.”
Sharpton’s oldest daughter, Dominique Sharpton, 23, and ex-wife, Kathy Jordan, 53, were arrested Friday when they got into a heated verbal tussle with cops during a traffic stop, police said.
Dominique Sharpton sped past a police car on Eighth Ave. at 110th St. and blasted through a red light before cops nabbed her, sources said.
Update: Shaprton’s Daughter Tell Dad to Stay Out of It
She called her mom, who rushed to the scene to find Dominique in the back of a police car, Sharpton’s attorney said.
Cops charged both with disorderly conduct and obstruction of governmental administration, issued them desk appearance tickets and let them go.
“Kathy showed the concern any mother would show,” Sharpton wrote.
Sharpton wrote there were “no drugs or drinking at all” – making their treatment all the more worse. Sharpton lawyer Michael Hardy called the arrest “excessive” and said the police car Dominique drove around was unmarked.
“It seems they were arrested simply because they asked why the ticket was being given,” said Hardy.
Police declined comment yesterday.

Ok, discussion over. Enough Sharpton-izing. This article has served its purpose: To get YOU to look and get YOU to comment. Whether the concern is the racial calling card for Mr. Sharpton, your disgust of him getting a lot of airtime that most always casts a pall over law enforcement or a little bickering between posters, ... it's over. As professionals, we learn when to speak and when not to speak. And certainly, this article is akin to handing out free Rice Krispie Treats: Just can't turn it down.
In reading through the posts, I did note a nearly complete lack of one officer safety concern: Allowing a driver to get on the phone to call "someone".
Is this something that y'all do normally or do you control the phone? Just asking the question.
Many years ago we started seeing the arrival of carloads of gang bangers when we made legal stops on cars with gangbanger-types in the car already detained. Within minutes, we had a lot of 'incoming' vehicles parking where ever and obviously not there to assist us.
OMG's do this regularly. If they are stopped, they make a quick call to their bike friends who race to the scene to begin videoing, photographing and just 'being in the way'. And you can create your own scenario how something can go downhill real quick if you take someone into custody with a boat load of bad buy buddies nearby.
I am not addressing the reason in this article for the car stop, the attitudes or the fact that Sharpton is somehow involved.
I am addressing the use of a cellphone to 'summon help'. You may have to discuss this during rollcall and/or with your District Attorney to establish a protocol for temporarily seizing a phone to stablize a situation.
All I ask is for you to think about it and 'what would you do if ...?"
Does a driver have the capacity to phone call for help that will ultimately create a larger officer safety environment than what you really want...?

I think it boils down to the fact that there is very little respect for officers anymore. I was always taught to not plead your case on side of the road with the officer that is what court is for. Here in MS we have a nice law that I think more officers should use and that is "failure to comply" You are told a direct order from an officer and you don't comply, well you go to jail. Kinda simply concept. I could only imagine how that conversation went with the officer and the Rev's daughter.

Once again Sharpton has found an excuse to get his face on TV again. His daughter, though it doesn't sound like she is real bright, i.e. speeding, running red lights, arguing with the cops on the street, etc., is apparently smarter than he is. She realizes that initially only a small handful of people would ever hear of her arrest. However, now that daddy dear has put his racist mouth to the microphone, the entire USA will know that she can't drive worth a darn. I am convinced that Sharpton could care less that he is standing up for criminals most of the time, all he is concerned about is that the TV cameras find him. What a misnomer title "reverend". Claiming to be a man of God but being one of the most racist people ever. Yep Al, that's following the good book. A wise man once said, "It's better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Hey Al, there is no doubt left. Good job on the officer's part in getting the confrontation off the street and into the car before it esculated into a street scene. Loved Sharpton's points, "No drugs or alcohol. No personal or property damage." Well Mr. Wizard, they weren't charged with any alcohol or drug violations nor were they charged with personal or property damage. They were disorderly. Here where I work we refer to it as Felony Stupid. Must have got it from her daddy.

Predator, I'm not starting an arguement but COME ON.......everything Sharpton involves himself in is against the white race. Sharpton convicts the accused before he even has the facts. Remember the Duke University students and Tawana Brawley hoax just to name a few? He has the credibility of a dog turd. His ugly mug never surfaces for any other minority than his own and even then its always to promote himself. I haven't seen him fighting for the American Indians lately........a race of people that had an entire continent stolen from them. He's a disgrace and embarassment to his own people...........and to this country as a citizen. Anyone who can't see that is as ignorant as Sharpton is.

Al Sharpton, yeah, because what that idiot says is credible. Ironic the biggest opponent against racism, is actually the biggest racist in the country. Why play the race card on such an issue?. Who cares if no drugs or alcohol was involved, his relatives we're disorderly, thus they we're cited. Sounds right to me!

Wow, I cant believe some of the stuff I read here. Do we all know the whole story. If I was in trouble, I would want someone like Al Sharpton to help me out. No matter if he was white, black, hispanic, or any other race.

I am sure no murder or rape was involved either so the cops should have just let them go. Al Sharpton needs to find a real job.

The next time a subject of a different race claims you are only taking action because of your race ask them if "now if I was the same race as you, would you be talking to me like this?" and see what they say, or how they act.
I had a buddy tell a black violator: No, I didn't stop you because you were black, I stop you for speeding. But..............I am writing you a ticket because you are black. LOL He never was complained on...............I'd have been in the Chief's office in 10 minutes if I said that.

Haaaaa ha ha ah aaaaaaaa!
I have to see the video. Oh my lord! Im sure they were arrested because they asked a calm, collected question? Horsepucky!
On the other side, much respect to Sharpons Daughter for tellin Daddy to stay out of it. It probably helped her position rather than hurt it.
Another thing, the police car was not marked, so its OK to speed and run red lights?
