How's it going? JOB POSTING:Police Officer
The Port of Corpus Christi Authority of Nueces County is accepting applications for the position of Port Police Officer. This position under the general supervision of the Chief of Port Police & Security. The Port Police Officer enforces the law and is responsible for the oversight of Security Officers and for the protection of life and property within the jurisdiction of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority.
Essential Functions:
Ensures the enforcement of and complies with applicable federal laws, State laws including, but not limited to the Texas Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure, and Port Ordinances/Tariffs.
Patrols Port property by vehicle or boat, depending upon operational needs, and conducts vehicular and vessel searches in conjunction with federal law enforcement agencies.
Provides assistance and guidance to Port Security Officers concerning access control and Guard duties.
Coordinates activities with local, State and federal law enforcement agencies.
Promptly and appropriately responds to crimes in progress, or dispatched calls; apprehends suspects without resorting to excessive force, conducts interviews and collects evidence when necessary.
Investigates crimes, accurately prepares and files cases with prosecutors and testifies in court when necessary.
Communicates effectively with the general public, Port employees, tenants, vendors and those who have official business on Port property.
Takes proper safety precautions in operating vehicles, equipment, materials and weapons.
Prepares reports, letters and other correspondence in an accurate and professional manner.
Maintains an acceptable level of competence, professionalism and ethical standards both on and off duty.
Subject to duty at all times (24 hour basis) and in case of special needs or emergencies.
Other:
Adheres to Port policy and maintains good employee relations.
May perform training coordinator duties.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Physical Factors: While performing duties employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, hear, speak and use hand to finger movements; frequently required to stoop, kneel, twist, squat, crouch or crawl, lift varying amounts of weights depending upon task at hand; occasionally required to respond to physical encounters, attacks and/or perform foot pursuits; at times in general office environment. The Police Officer is occasionally required to perform duties while underway in patrol boat, at times in rough water which may result in sudden and abrupt up and down, side to side motions; employee regularly required to maintain balance in adverse conditions; at other times in general office environment.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to adverse weather conditions, fumes and/or airborne particles. At times may be exposed to physical danger, hazards associated with protecting the Port, and moderate noise levels. Police Officer will be exposed to the maritime environment while on patrol boat.
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a high school diploma or GED; demonstrated proficiency of the English language; effective verbal and written communication skills; oral and written proficiency in the Spanish language preferred; demonstrated proficiency with a personal computer; ability to complete accurate and concise written reports; ability to read
and understand policies, rules, regulations, instructions, laws and law enforcement literature; must possess working knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure. Ability to work in a team environment; adept with pistol, shotgun and rifle; must possess self-control, tact, good judgment; be reliable, dependable and maintain a good attendance record. Must not have received any traffic citations or been involved in any chargeable traffic accidents in the past two calendar years; must be available to work a schedule of 12 hour rotating shifts, 4 days on and 4 days off; nights weekends and holidays and be on call; a minimum of four years full-time police officer experience or acceptable equivalent experience.
Knowledge of TCLEOSE Rules and Regulations, and Instructor Certificate preferred. Candidates for this position must be willing to comply with the Port’s Wellness Program and Non-Tobacco use Policy.
Candidates for this position must provide copies of three (3) self-authored, written reports which have been submitted to a current or recent employer within the last year. Successful candidates will be required to undergo a background investigation and a credit report inquiry, and must submit the following information:

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED BY TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must posses valid Texas driver’s license.
Must be a Texas TCLEOSE certified peace officer.
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
