- About Me
- I worked as an officer, then detective for 15 years until forced to retire from my injuries in 3/05. I worked patrol in some pretty busy precincts and worked as a detective for a number of years in Narcotics (including the Bronx). I have had shots fired at me in anger and have returned fire.I served approximately twelve years on the lodge board level of the F.O.P. and four years on the state level of the Fraternal Order of Police. I also served for eight years as a board member on the Police Self Support Group, served as a Delegate in the NYPD Honor Legion, I am a recipient of the Dupont/I.A.C.P vest survivors award from 10/31/1993 as well as being honored with recognition awards from N.O.B.L.E., the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York State Shields. I arrived at 9/11/2001 just after the second tower collapsed and worked for 1 month on search and rescue and search and recovery. I then transferred to a unit that specialized in C.I.S.D. and worked there debriefing countless law enforcement personell (I specialized in detectives and worked closely with many other units). I do still suffer from P.T.S.D. and some survivors guilt, however I have recognized this long ago, gotten the help I needed and proceeded to get the training I needed to help others going through both P.T.S.D and long term P.T.S.D. as well as survivors guilt. I also recieved training to help survivors (Family members, Co-Workers) and am currently working with C.O.P.S.; who helped me tremendously. I had to move from N.Y. to Florida to deal with my injuries, unfortunately I will remain 100 percent disabled for the rest of my life. I do thank organizations who have recognized my efforts (they know who they are). In closing I will always continue to be there for those officers who are seriously injured in any way or for the survivors. I also have one question, why is it that we as Law Enforcement Officers are not recognized as the VETERANS we are. WE TRULY ARE THE FRONT LINES IN THE WARS BEING FOUGHT, EITHER THE FIRST OF LAST LINE OF DEFENSE, ON 9/11 WE THOUGHT IT WAS WORLD WAR III, REPORTS(SOME FALSE) OF ATTACKS ON THE PENTAGON, THE SEARS TOWERS, THE CAPITOL...WE HAD OUR OWN WARPLANES FLYING DIRECTLY OVERHEAD, MILITARY WAS ON THE GROUND; WE TRULY THOUGHT THAT DEATH MIGHT BE PLACING HER COLD HANDS ON NOT ONLY OURSELVES BUT EVERYONE THERE. OUR MEN AND WOMEN ARE ON FOOT PATROL WEARING RADIATION DETECTORS ON THEIR BODIES. WE ARE BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN ARMS WITH OUR BRAVE ARMED FORCES. IN ADDITION TO THE ARMED FORCES WE ARE THE REASON THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT...AND I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE IS LITTLE TO NO HELP TO THOSE OF US WHO ARE INJURED PERMANANTLY (TO QUALIFY FOR THE P.S.O.B. YOU EITHER HAVE TO BE A QUADRAPLEGIC OR COMATOSE, THIS IS A SLAP IN THE FACE).

HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them'
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, and hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
11. Don't waste time finding fault with others - they can usually
Find fault with themselves just fine. Try something challenging-
LOOK FOR THE GOOD IN EVERYONE!
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
And if you don't send this to at least 8 people - who cares?
But do share this with someone.
We all need to live life to its fullest each day!!
Worry about nothing, pray about everything!!!
