"Just Another Man"
He looks in the mirror every morning and night,
Does he see what I see, it would be nice if he might.
He sees a rude man as he stands there,
I see someone who needs someone to care.
He sees a mean man, because he has to be tough,
I see someone who deals with more than enough.
He sees how he tries not to cry and feels he has no heart,
I see someone who has to keep his feelings and work apart.
He sees a murderer because he shot someone last night,
I see someone who saved someone else from a fight.
He sees a failure because he did not arrive in time
I see someone who did his best and needs peace of mind.
He sees just another man as he enters the day,
I see a special man who does his best in every way.
For all the years, he has put on the uniform of blue,
He has never realized how much he protects me and you.
But, as he starts the day again, I just wish he could see,
What he really is and how much he means to you and me.

Johnny,
You can be an explorer deputy at your age, now. You have to be 21 to be an reserve. They do and have the same powers as a full-time deputy. They replace us on the road when we take days off and they have special radar and DWI task forces of their own.
Go down to the Sheriff's officer at 40 S. Alabama St. downtown across from City-County bldg and apply at the personnel office to be in the explorer program. I believe that they still have one. Call the sheriff's office at 327-1515 to check it out.
Take care, little brother.

Johnny,
Only 15, huh? Well, it's going to be awhile then; but, with a will....there's a way. If you want it bad enough; you can make it happen. I started out in the reserves for 2 years and then was able to get on full-time. You have to get to know the people inside and they will help you get on. Use them as a reference. Start in the jail as a deputy. That works, too.
We practice the honor guard about 2 times a month. We not only do funerals; but, we present the colors at each of the graduating classes graduations and at special events throughout Marion Co.

Thanks for accepting my invite, Johnny.
Are you still looking to get on somewhere here in Indy? Have you applied with MCSD. You would have to start in the jail; but, that gets you in and lets you meet everyone who can help you move up.
We are still hiring. Come down to 40 S. Alabama St. and put in an app.
Take care,
Alan
