- November 2009 Update: Hi Everyone! Been super busy redoing teen daughter's room & finished last night, painting the barn ceilings & fixing the fanlight(since I was on the damn ladder anyway)...yahoo! I was able to get for $45 a tv that has DVD/VHS in it for the armoire in her room off craigslist...this site is sooo great. She has a full size futon($15)& I'm still hunting for a futon mattress, but at this point I may have to break down and just get one the regular way. Next is the bathroom & my room/hallway. Just a few small projects to keep me busy while I look for work, at jobs that are 'supposed' to be out there. Big weekend for the Holbrook Sportsmens Club...Our Gunshow is this weekend, so I'll get to look at some guns, grab a few cards for later purchases & hope like hell to get a job soon, so I can practice and purchase some handguns. Think I'll be looking into a 45 & a 38 first. Have my 1st safe for the handgun, already have the hardtop case for my rifle, and have been practicing(sp?) with my recurve bow and arrows for a couple of days. Read a book, sliced my left hand with those nasty little innocent feathers(think like paper cut w/o the sting)and am currently wearing my leather garden gloves until I can find a pair of archery shooting gloves to fit a 3" wide hand(which is tiny, because I haven't yet found a youth glove small enough to wear...measure it out & then tell me all about it. Better yet, tell me the address where I can get the gloves...which I prefer leather anyway.) Got some tips from some other members using compound bows & found out that nothing, different colors don't matter, helps you locate the arrows any better when they hide themselves in the grass, leaves, wooded areas, hay bales...so then I didn't feel as stupid when I had to start my grid work to find my arrows. So far, I've managed to find all that I shoot...all I can say is, Bambi & Mom y'all are in trouble next year, as I am DETERMINED to take one of you down. I am hitting the vitals nearly every time I shoot, so I have a whole year to get really good at this. I also seem to have the range to myself on windy & crappy days, so my practice will only get better. The only thing I have learned is that I need to buy maybe 6 more arrows, so that when I am sharing the range, I have something to shoot to last me longer between fetching/waiting periods. The guys are great to "pick their minds" about hunting/shooting tips. While helping at the club today, I did some networking & found out about some possible job areas to look into next week. Been OOW for 1 yr.2 weeks now & only (2) interviews...so, when people start talking about all the jobs that are out there, they must already have a job, because you apply(mostly online it seems), fill out applications, but not a lot of interviews going on. You wait weeks to hear about any position opening after doing above, and then the more courteous companies let you know that they will only contact those they are interested in. It's a crappy situation. To my fellow OOW's...hang in there, get projects done, make sure you make your Unemployment deadlines for extending whatever income you can, exercise off your stress(have super great rower $50, alpine stepper $50...and I use them, they do not just hang out at my house collecting dust & stuff), do something to keep your mind fresh. I've been studying on my own, some of the books & materials that I figure I've missed during my Summer & Fall semester work in Criminal Justice, just so that when I do get to resume my college work I hopefully won't be too far behind. If I get work by Christmas, then I will be able to go back for (1) class for the Winter Part II semester, otherwise, I guess I will have to hope for the Spring session. This puts me back (1) whole year now, I must have the longest record for getting an Assoc. degree...which I started 9/2005 & between jobs have been trying to finish. I do not qualify for tuition breaks, loans, scholarships, grants due to marriage status, not a vet, language capacity, no dependent children, house income. Welcome to middle class America. I have (12) more classes to finish & supposedly I will be done(with the Assoc.degree)hahahaha. You know, doing the EMT school is looking better & better. I just don't have the $$ to take it right now. Average cost is $700-$800 for a 4 month course. Working on paying off 2 more cc's to be debt free once again, and then can put $$ toward the EMT schooling. I'm hoping to have 1 of the 2 mentioned above completely paid off by the end of Dec. this year. Hopefully gas won't go up to $5 a gal. & I'll get it done sooner, if I'm frugal. To also help me pass the time, our Library sponsors teaching English as a 2nd language/other language, and I have been matched to a student to tutor(what the hell...been speaking English for 42 yrs. I think I know enough to teach it to someone else, esp. someone who wants to learn. We have a waiting list of 100 people, and just not enough tutors, go figure.) This is a volunteer opportunity & I can't wait to start. I have no idea yet, it my student knows some English or none at all, and I am hoping that I get someone who speaks another language, so that I can become a student as well. Hell, its not like I get the opportunity to learn another language from a native all the time. I see this as only helping me in whatever Security job I get in the future...it can make all the difference if you can just say "Hi", "Please", "Thankyou", "Are you all right/Do you need help?" in someone else's language. I know, I've muddled through it when I've travelled(been to 27 countries on my own)and always managed with helpful people simply because I tried, not always successfully, but still I tried. People can appreciate that you are trying....I was good at drawing, pantamining/acting out what I needed, so I got along. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to know what you want to say/do/need and be smart in your own language, and then have people treat you like you are hard of hearing or stupid because you don't speak English well enough/at all. Hopefully on Monday I'll find out who my new student will be. Anyway, that's the latest with me. All my friends on this site, thanks for being here & sorry I haven't chit-chatted in awhile. I'll try to catch up sometime this weekend(after the Gunshow). If you've looked for me on Facebook...I am having my own little war w/that site...it just refuses to accept whatever password I put in/they accept...go to login, it refuses all. It just drives me batty!! And, you wonder why some of us are just not gungho on this techy stuff...this is the classic example why. Any Vets out there....I've adopted (3) Marines, (1)Army & (1)Navy Troops this time around[these troops I've adopted won't be home til August/Sept. 2010] so I need ideas, ESP. if you've been over in Afghanistan/Iraq during winter times, in super SANDY conditions & can shed some light on stuff I could send in my CARE PKGS. I can't afford phone cards, but all other ideas would be great & deeply appreciated!! I try for troops that are in FOB areas, so if you've been there, done that....I REALLY, REALLY would LOVE your imput to make my pkgs. count for these guys! This is my small contribution to helping the Troops, I basically put together pkgs. whenever & with whatever I can pick up, mail them on my own. I don't work with any groups or anything like that. I adopt them from the AnySoldier.com site and usually do Navy,Army & Marines because that is where my family have/are serving in these branches. This is a fantastic site & I encourage everyone to pick a name, and drop a letter to our guys/gals serving our country. This helps so much in keeping them in good spirits...I mean, just think how you feel when you get a card or letter from someone you haven't heard from in a long time & miss. It can mean so much, esp. for those that have no one to write to them or send them stuff. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!! Michele

"Just Another Man"
He looks in the mirror every morning and night,
Does he see what I see, it would be nice if he might.
He sees a rude man as he stands there,
I see someone who needs someone to care.
He sees a mean man, because he has to be tough,
I see someone who deals with more than enough.
He sees how he tries not to cry and feels he has no heart,
I see someone who has to keep his feelings and work apart.
He sees a murderer because he shot someone last night,
I see someone who saved someone else from a fight.
He sees a failure because he did not arrive in time
I see someone who did his best and needs peace of mind.
He sees just another man as he enters the day,
I see a special man who does his best in every way.
For all the years, he has put on the uniform of blue,
He has never realized how much he protects me and you.
But, as he starts the day again, I just wish he could see,
What he really is and how much he means to you and me.

Just saw the thing about emt classes... check out Safety Program Consultants, Inc they are the best around in my oppinion. A lot of my friends have gone through them. They give discounts to LEO's as well. So as soon as you get on, you can take you discounted EMT classes.
